Eden looks like she is up to try any task. I think she needs a shot at the mini digger!

Brilliant as ever, its amazing what you achieve. If you knew someone with saveral barns filled with massive road building / earth moving equipment . . . Then a very heavy vibrating roller would provide a more crisp finish - otherwise the KZbin specialist would do much the same. From memory *Diesel Creek* has an 1800 foot drive he covered in rock and gravel . . .

Hose your type 1 then compact it. Will bring the fines to the top and make a more weather proof surface.

Hose down pre compaction will hold tighter ,👍👍

‘Type 1’ is called ‘road base’ here in Australia. Makes perfect sense to us.

Glad to see I’m not the only nutter who compacts my track with a plate compactor 😅 you’ve got me wanting to move back to Herefordshire. Looking good.

Perfect timing...just about to repair some tracks the geotex tip will, I hope, prove beneficial. Cheers. A y tips on tree stump removal
@vaalrus Жыл бұрын
I’ve lost track of how much heavy duty geotextile I’ve buried. I’ve trained a gravel lorryman to back up onto my fabric, spreading it as he goes, and that really speeds up the process and keeps the fabric flat. :) Looks good.

I'm not sure I could ever be settled in a place when you will never be "done" with all the jobs. A farmstead seems like a constant project with no end. I admire someone else doing it though whilst i drink coffee on the sofa 😆

what i suggest is to check with builders merchants to see if they have a source for road planings, road planings are sourced when highways contractors plane the top 50mm or so from motorways etc and re-instate the surface using barbour-greene tarmac layers.Road planings are still coated with the tar from the old highway and compact nicely into a surface suitable for slower moving traffic for example garden centre car parks,farm tracks and the like.If you are lucky there may even be a local airport and the runway surfaces are regularly subject to maintenance

Lots of planings available here but not something I wish to use next to grazed fields and flood meadows. The contamination of the soil would not be worth the savings. We do have other areas around the yards which are all road planings and like you say it is a good option and compacts well.

I love thing kind of big practical groundwork as opposed to the precise pretty work you might do in a domestic setting

I had to use 120 tones of hard core for my driveway and garden and believe me you question where its went 🤔
@jimgeelan5949 Жыл бұрын
When 20 tons gets dumped on your drive and over spills into the road it looks totally different 😂

I need to add to the surface of our lane which has been neglected for 20 years. 300m in total starts to add up when you need to hire a digger, dumper and roller. I have estimated 60 tonnes, plan was to use 20mm blinding any advice before I start the project? Wasn’t planning on using any fabric is it required?
@TheRestorationCouple Жыл бұрын
If it’s an established lane I would have thought membrane not needed. A sit on type road roller is what we will use for the larger areas. Best tip would be to get the delivery lorry to do as much of the work as possible for you.

Are you worried about the new gravel at the field gateway washing away because the footpath has created a drain which will "empty" directly onto it. Perhaps use some of the stones on the side of the drive to create a swale to direct the water under the fence.
@TheRestorationCouple Жыл бұрын
I think there is enough of a side to side fall that it will come down one side anyway. No doubt some water will collect at the bottom but it’s a little higher than field now so should be far better than before. 👍

Still going strong. Dad's been borrowing it but this week we will have it running alongside the red one as we couldn't get a roller in time.
