Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Mark Knoffler, Jeff Beck, Bill Wyman of the 'Stones', on bass, Charlie Watts on drums! More star power on this stage then you can imagine! Man, would I have liked to be at that concert! Thanks for this post!

Not a single mention of the fact that all three guitarists for the Yardbirds are playing on this? I think that's the coolest part.

I was there at the Royal Albert Hall when this was filmed at the ARMS/Prince's Trust gig. It wasn't the Stones though just Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts among the other musicians. It was 1983, and I've got it on VHS somewhere :-)

Today August 13, 2009, A day we morn the passing of guitar legend, Les Paul, he was 94 The man who influnced every guitarists (and musician) in this video. Les Paul was an inovative genius with an "axe". A man who drew out the many inovative talents and abilities of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler and most of all Jeff Beck, the most inovative guitarist of this generation. A moment of silence for the man who gave rise to an era of so many talented musicians. Thanks Les, we'll miss you.

This reminds me of the era of "My guitar can play louder than your guitar".. haha . In the second part of the song it is so rowdy Phil Collins is playing the gong at full arm, a recording engineer's nightmare, not that the entire thing is not distorted from the git go. Even the guitar players are rolling their eyes looking back stage at him banging the Chinese gong till it finally actually breaks . Applause comes like some kind of relief from the guitar stage left. "Whew ,it's over.."

Quite simply the greatest collection of musicians to come together on one stage that I've ever witnessed- especially guitarists. 2 questions- is that a very young Mark Knofler (of Dire Straights) playing up front to the left of Clapton? and is that Bill Wyman or George Harrison to the right of Clapton? Incredible, and a great song to boot.
