Thank you for a wonderful video on creating foliage brushes. I'm an acrylic landscape artist and I do see the benefit of these brushes in acrylics however much different than oils. I was curious as to what consistency you mix your colours for grasses and foliage. Thanks!
@LayneJohnsonStudio9 ай бұрын
Thanks Robert. I paint in thin layers, so my paint is the same consistency for grasses and foliage as for everything else. Except for final details which might be a bit thicker paint - and with smaller brushes (like a liner).

There are a lot of different songs. The easiest way to find what it is is to let Google listen to the song you're interested in. It's usually pretty accurate!
@suzt70769 ай бұрын
Great idea - I must do this instead of throwing out old classroom brushes when I upgrade them. Do you also let them stay dirty - it looks like some of your older ones have a lot of paint at the roots, which helps separate the bristles and keep the foliage shape?
@LayneJohnsonStudio8 ай бұрын
That's part of it. I've also intentionally let medium dry in the belly of a cheap round brush to mimic an old brush. (Also, in the old days I didn't take as good of care of them as I do now!)
@lafortunato28949 ай бұрын
That is awesome. I can’t wait to go cut up my brushes! Lol!

Layne, could you tap the round ferrule with a hammer or squeeze it with plyers to flatten it out a little? Thank you so much for your help.
@LayneJohnsonStudio10 ай бұрын
Sure! Just be careful and try not to crack the ferrule. But hey, that's why we use cheap brushes for this!

A makeup brush can be used also.. really.
@LayneJohnsonStudio8 ай бұрын
The biggest challenge I found with makeup brushes (yes, I've tried them!), is they tend to fall apart pretty quickly with the paint, solvent, etc. But it doesn't hurt to give them a try!
