I remember grinding before one of the missions, so I could buy the giant dump truck from that mission. It wouldn't go trough checkpoints but if you were in front of the starting field at the beginning of a race and vent into reverse then you could wreck like half of the competitors right there. It was easy mode.

I'm still impressed that not only can you split your car in half in this game, but if the car is still drivable the physics properly take the new weight distribution into account. Completely unnecessary and a pain to program, useless during gameplay as well, and yet they still put it in because they could. I mean yeah, it's cool as heck, but that sort of dedication is something you don't see in... any racing game. Even Wreckfest doesn't have cars that can split in half, let alone be drivable in such a state.

@Gurra885 жыл бұрын
Maybe he meant Germany. I heard they have some ridiculously pathetic censorship laws. Something like blood has to be green and the people you run over in Carmageddon have to be referred to as "zombies". They even banned Cannibal Corpse from playing songs off their 3 or 4 first albums. I heard that at least. If true it's embarrassing.

I can't describe how lucky you got with Jenny Talia. In 4/5 of the early game races she's always the last enemy I fight, because her car is so incredibly prone to get damaged in a way that it actually just turns into a mobile ramp and you'll just jump off when you crash into it.
@rootbeer6667 жыл бұрын
The "wheelspin" key lets you turn around quicker as well as false start the race (with minor credit penalty). Feels quite rewarding learning to use all the controls, like hitting pedestrians with your doors or spinning the car on the spot to get into position to ram your opponent.

I think it took me over a year before I actually tried to beat the game instead of just driving around wrecking stuff! First got to play the game myself when I was 6 or 7. I remember getting stuck on the Group 3 mission where you had to kill those mental asylum escapees, so since I could never pass that mission I just modded the crap out of the game with additional cars from the Internet to keep myself entertained.

Unfair Funfair was the best - just near the start was a lane that ended with powerups for Pinball and Bouncy-Bouncy. Plus some TNT. Hit them at top speed and you'd quickly be gyroscoping a mile above the track, and if you didn't fall fast enough the invulnerability ran out just before you hit the ground. Hit them in the wrong order and you'd die hilariously. So really, no way to lose.

Man, I had Carma 1 back when I was a kid. It was easily one of my most-played games for a while, and I recently picked up the Android port of it with the Humble Bundle. It actually plays extremely well (with the D-pad control)! I never did manage to play Carma 2 (looks so similar that they even kept the announcer clips). I can't wait for the new one, and I kick myself for missing the Kickstarter. It'd be awesome to have a modern Carma to romp through. Online multiplayer would be amazing fun.

Oh my god, you're so right. 1998 was a great year for PC games, racing games in particular. I played a ton of those great games that year. I tend to kind of like the graphical aesthetics of the first game better than the second, but the second game seems so much bigger and better created. Like you said, the levels are a huge difference here. And after a relatively short period of time, I stop caring about the graphics aesthetics and I get completely immersed in the game (whether talking about watching this video or talking about when I actually played the game originally). That's a sign of a really good game. I don't think I can choose one over the other. They're both great games. And the first one obviously has a soft spot in my heart, but so does the second one. I completely agree with you about everything you've said about both games, I just still can't decide which one I like better. I like them both equally.
@Vlad-198611 жыл бұрын
TDR2000 is not too bad! Of course I consider it the worst of the trio, and I agree about the annoying missions, but in the end of the day, you are able to cheat on the missions, beat them quickly and enjoy the normal gameplay. My favourite will always be Carma 1, because of its dark, extra gory setting. I am really happy to see normal reviews again!, they cheer my lunchtime so much!

Usually it's just bundling the games with DOSBox (or nGlide, in this case), with preconfigured tweaks to the games and any necessary patches applied. The focus is on making the games work straight out of the box. If you already own this game legally, you could probably get it working by installing nGlide. Still, I support GOG because of their DRM-free stance and their work bringing classics back to life.

You totally forgot to say that carma2 has the most improbable and heavy rooster of cars available, including a WWII plane, a combine, a gas turbine powered bus, and the most game-killing car of it all : Pitbull's dump truck, 50 tons gigantic machine that is as wide as the road and too tall to go through checkpoints... Carma1 always had been about stealing the heaviest car (Don Dumpster's earthmover) to have a chance to beat and steal the cop's 6 wheeled armored tank, but cars were still pretty balanced. You can race (I mean harvest peds) pretty peacefully with light but fast cars, mid-weight ones had a chance against heavy ones, but carma2 was completely unbalanced, there were just too many big vehicles. If you took time to farm a lot of money to buy the big dump truck which appeared only in one mission, the game was set forever, and it was a bit unsatisfying. Thrashing that formidable opponent was also a joke, making him crashing against a corner of a building was an instant kill without even touching him... Carmageddon 4 is way more balanced in the spirit of the very first one, even the semi truck is not that tough because of it's snails speed. Beating the cop's tank is again a noteworthy, tiresome and rewarding combat and lightweight cars, having active offensive weapons like bladed wheels, has a chance to rip appart medium weight opponents.
@VortechBand2 жыл бұрын
Unlike normal vehicles in C1, if the Suppressor got wasted in any way, you were automatically rewarded it, even if it died by itself. So the best way is to let it chase you to the top of the building and either get it stuck in the monorail near it (and ram it over and over), or just drop it down the building over and over (I think it needed something like 6 or 7 drops, it's been a while). Awesome vehicle, along with Pitbull's Tow Truck.
@vtr01044 жыл бұрын
I still play it... The sound doesn't work anymore for me, but it's still fun as hell :| Also, The Eagle is pretty good, but later in the game you'll come across Synthea in The Thunderbucket, black T-Bird with white stripes. It's great for the late game as it's got nearly the same speed and handling as the Eagle, but weighs much more (I think it was listed at 3 Tons. So when you ram something, it hurts like hell. The special vehicles are fun, but they're more of an incentive, as they're not really practical for objectives (like Loggerhead, Don in the snow-plow, that guy with the mining truck, the Greyhound bus or that black Semi). The smaller vehicles are the ones to use for the jumps, sneaking to places to find secrets, hunting pedestrians through buildings, etc.
