Games from the 90s are like that, I may be born in the 2000, but I know the games back in the 90 are really hard and complex, you need to know and understand many of the things in the game. This one is exactly that. Know the combos and know the enemies and how to attack/defend against them. Just like Cup head.

I love that whole thing you mentioned about them using the Quake map thing for the backgrounds on top of the 2D gameplay. Looks really fun

I think you "technically" could, but you're not going to have a good time if you just stick to the basics. And there are some boss fights where sticking to the fundamentals will get you annihilated very quickly.

Absolutely in love with this game, had it preordered ever since the first demo playthrough. Hope people check it out, once the combat clicks, it _clicks_ - even just the novelty of what this intends to be alone would be worth supporting in my mind, but goddamn it has more than enough substance to back that up, too.

huge fan of the original. most people don't know and won't care, but SLAVE ZERO was one of the first commercially available games on pc with BUMP MAPPING and they knew it was a game changer since in the options, u could toggle it on and off and have a live preview how amazing it was...bump mapping was the future. this game, i tried the demo, it is impressive, reminded me of STRIDER 2 on ps1. my only problem is the asking price, around $35 or $25 i think ? kinds steep but the game is still not priced, but heard it is either $24.99 or $35.99 on consoles, because this game would be a perfect $20 game.... anw, will wait and see, super excited by it. btw, that death animation is so insane.....really creepy, love the artstyle, really do.

I hope the reviews remain as positive as this, I really love the look of this game and have the Calamity Edition pre ordered... I Dream of Indies review sounded like "I suck at these type of games so it's a bad game"....

There are moments where I absolutely do suck, as you can see in the video 😂 But when everything clicks and you hit your groove? Slave Zero X feels like a thrill in those moments.

When the game clicks for me it really works well, some less polished aspects crop up in the latter half enemies feel a bit spongy sometimes and the guys with loads of hyper armor are ball ache. The golden circle thing has me in two minds if your getting your offense in and restoring your burst to keep looping your EX moves then you kinda dont need the defensive aspects of the burst. In fact it feels like a punishment to use it defensively. I hope the devs can find a way address the more polarising aspects of the combat and their philosophy toward difficulty because the art and presentation of this such a nice treat and its such a shame that bad word of mouth might deter folks from this game when its appeal is already so niche. Was also really shocked that from everything this game sorta lifts from guilty gear you cant air dash, that shits actually whack.

I just bought it and I’m learning the steep mechanics, But out of curiousity anyone know how long the runtime is for a run of the campaign? I want to know if it’s a quick bite or if it’s one that I’ll devote time to beating. Not just because of difficulty but in general

@@Darranged That’s awesome!! It’s hard to dedicate time to games some days for me because of the kids but I just got through the first stage and made it to the second stage boss, It gets tough. The tutorial isn’t great so I started doing moves and combos I originally would in a fighting game to try and keep that meter going and it’s worked well! Any tips?
