What you are seeing is her effort to breathe. Whether it is lungs that are the problem, a faulty diaphragm or what, it isn’t a strong heartbeat that you’re looking at. Unfortunately achondroplasia often brings with it other problems - joint problems as you can see in the male cat’s crooked front paws, or sometimes problems with internal organs. It is a growth disorder that they are breeding for, after all.

At five weeks, kittens are normally able to run, jump, play, chase confidently, use a litter box reliably and start developing social skills. Maybe a firm surface with some texture will help Kiki develop her walking co-ordination. Walking on soft surfaces is very hard work.

Very right words Christine, yes indeed. We need to send good vibes and only good thoughts to little Kiki and her human Papa. He eill be guided if anything needs to be done but it really shows Kiki is strong and growing up. Maybe just throwing into her box a few simple "toys" like a piece of string/ wool to provide some stimuli for the little kitten, she is strong enough now and shows interest to play and also explore- maybe putting her on the floor with her parents? I've just looked at videos of other kittens where the kittens are 4 weeks old. And I have to say that there is a difference to the development of Kiki. This mainly applies to running. The kittens in the videos are walking properly and their eyes are properly developed. Maybe Kiki is a late developer.

And for no other reason than to please people with cute looks. It is the equivalent to achondroplasia in humans. It comes with a host of other disorders, like the severely wonky joints that the father cat has in his front feet, and oftentimes with problems of the internal organs.
