It is not Mesopotamia, Mesopotamia is an adjective which was given by the Greeks when Alexander invaded, the proper name of the land is Ashur, the great Empire which ruled over 1000 years without interruption. Today, the Assyrian lands are occupied by the latter invaders. As for Gilgamesh, he was two-thirds god and one-third human and he was King. His quest was for immortality and not cutting the cedar trees. During this quest, he and his friend Enkido fight Humbaba. Gilgamesh was told by the only immortal then that there was a plant which granted immortality and that is how Gilgamesh set out with Enkido to find that plant passing through Lebanon. Enkido dies from a disease sent by gods and Gilgamesh is faced with death when his friend dies. At the end Gilgamesh returns to Uruk and discovers that he and all humans can not be immortals.
