As Benjamin Netanyahu rules out a UK and US ceasefire proposal with Lebanon, Tom Swarbrick speaks to former British Ambassador Nick Westcott.

The diplomacy expert says the only way for Israel to 'stop the missiles' is a political solution, not a military one.
This comes after the US, UK and their allies called for an immediate 21-day ceasefire as the Middle East risks breaking out into a regional war.
The news is set against the backdrop of recent deadly strikes which have taken place across Lebanon in recent days, with the US, UK, France and other allies jointly calling for an immediate ceasefire on Wednesday.
Signatories to the statement include the UK, the US, Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has dismissed the idea of a ceasefire.

What do you mean by an "all out war"? In asymetric wars nation states have come off very badly - Afghnistan (two British defeats, a Russian defeat and an UN defeat), Malaya, Aden, Kenya (all British defeats, Vietnam (defeats for France and the USA), ISIS (defeat of a Western coalition), war against the Houthis (stalemate at best and probably a defeat of a Western coaliton). The best that can be expected is some sort of stalemate or perpetual war, We are not talking about Israel vs nation states (Syria, Egypt, Jordan....). With Israel backed by the USA, and to a lesser extent by the UK and others, Netanyahu has no incentive to negotiate a peace, all that time that is the case then Hamas , Hezbollah have no motivation to seek a negotiated peace. The illegal occupation of Palestinian land by Israeli/American settlers only makes a negotiated settlement even more impossible.

In 2018 Israeli soldiers shot 6,000 Palestinians, many were shot with illegal expanding ammunition and in the limbs. The intention was to overwhelm the medical systems in the Gaza. But you won't have seen this reported in the usual media outlets, you would have to Google the United Nations human rights abuse and atrocities reports. The IDF have been killing innocent Palestinians in their thousands both in Gaza and the West Bank for decades. Western administrations have always been aware of this but have never been inclined to call it out for what it is. Isreal is "Genuinely Shocked" by the current outrage against them for their "Culling" of what their society considers vermin. Before the usual keyboard warriors begin tapping out their garbage. I have lived and worked in Gaza, my wife is Palestinian as is our adopted orphaned daughter. "I know what I'm talking about"!!!
