Thank you so much for this video! The only thing that I wish you would have covered is how you glued the lenses back in place. Since they are lenses, I assume that if you put glue in the wrong place, you will affect the light dispersion. Any tips would be appreciated.

Both plasma and OLED screens are self illuminating. Unlike LCD screens they do NOT require backlights, so if you have a true OLED TV, then you should NOT have this problem. You may experience similar symptoms, but loose diffuser lenses will not be the cause of it. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

I've started to notice the same on my TCL QLED. It's a very faint spot in the lower left section of the screen but barely noticeable unless you focus on that area for a while. Should I just leave it be? Is it going to get worse? It's barely noticeable unless I stop to look at it for a few seconds. What happens if you don't glue back the reflector lens?

Thanks! This was brilliant. My son-in-law was going to throw away his 50" Samsung for two bright spots. He got a new TV under a 5 year warrantee plan. I fixed his old one for $8.00 in epoxy glue, and now I have a beautiful TV!

WOW!!! Thank you so much for your video. I picked up a 55 inch Samsung 2014 model which had been placed in our churches dumpster area. It had been left out in the rain and freezing cold for about 3 weeks. On a whim, I plugged it in and the set came on. It had a picture and worked when hooked up to may Apple TV box. It had about 15 bright white spots, and you could see water spots in certain parts of the screen. I found your video, followed your instructions and glued the diffuser lenses. Also discovered water between the diffuser panels as well. wiped up the water. Put it all back together and am now using the TV in my exercise room.

Thank-you. This was very helpful. I had one white spot, found the initial loose lens, then found 4 more that wiggled loose. All glued up with and will be putting screen back together today as I let the glue completely dry overnight. Take your time when you do this. I snapped the outer most trim piece taking it off, but it was an easy fix gluing it together. Saved me a couple thousand dollars as I was contemplating getting a new 75" tv!

This was great! Couldn’t get the glue recommended and bought Locktight, this didn’t work, cleaned the lens’s and applied Gorilla Glue and this worked better. It’s just took a really long time for the glue to set.

Just finished doing our smart TV. You done a great job doing it. Thank you for sharing your experience doing it. Took us quite a while, but was worth it. Better than to pay over £250 to get this sorted. We had 2 lenses fall of and another 2 were lose. We had no problems after we finished, like nothing has happened. So thank you 😊 great video. Oh and the dark spots you got after are just dirt and dust particles, I had those on my laptop after I fixed my Ram. So I ask what it was at a repair centre and been told that this often happens when you repair a TV or computer, because it takes easy dust particles on the screen, so best deal it to wipe it with antistatic cloth before putting together, it should be fine after. 👍

Sadly (not due to your instructions) I seem to have caused another problem despite being as careful as I can. Time for a new TV but I think I'll be looking for one with a different method of manufacture than the flimsy LED lenses.

Thank you very much! The repair has completely eliminated the white spots. Unfortunately, the right corner of the screen is slightly broken, but that hardly bothers me during use.

Just a thought - if you're using a TV box, try pulling in the horizontal and vertical display settings. If the defect at the right corner is tiny, that will put it in a black border, where it will be unlit and less noticeable. Changing resolutions on the TV might hide it too. Hope this helps. We just repaired like 20 reflectors. Couldn''t believe how many were loose. It is so much better but still see some faint white circles. We might have put too much glue on them. So I'd say don't over do it on the glue application. But definitely worth the attempt.

Also I probably didn't place them all with the post holes perfectly lined up so light escapes from under them! Place them perfectly in place is important.

To prevent this in future. Shut off your TV/Screen when not in use or when you can. Heat from the LED is what causes the Lens to separate from the LED in time.

It's best to have the unit powered on, so you can look directly down at the light to make sure the lens is perfectly centered. You want to block as much forward light as possible while looking straight on, like an eclipse. I used a clear 2 part resin that had a cure time of 5 minutes. I made multiple small batches, applied with a tooth pick. This held very well. Watch the screen ribbon cables, I started to assemble the front bezel upside down and ruined the screen.

Great video and spot on with all the info. I would add just to be EXTREMELY careful when removing the glass screen. My curved Samsung cracked almost immediately upon lifting it off of the unit.

If it's any consolation, I've also been there, done that. You DO have to be extremely careful. The TV in the video was only 40" diagonal. That size is relatively easy for one person to handle. But, as you caution, when lifting anything much over 50", it's best to use two people and a makeshift stretcher. Two strips of 1" x 2" furring covered with foam pipe insulation work well. Two lengths of foam-covered PVC pipe can also be used. When all is said and done, though, no doctor can cure every patient. At least you tried, and it will go better next time. Awesome video that helped me take apart and replace over 50 diffusers that fell off or would have fallen off using 5 minute epoxy. To my dismay, my rework was approximately 90% effective. Once I reassembled and tested the 50 inch Samsung, there were 5 bright spots in various positions on the screen. I tested the LEDs before reassembly, but did not notice the 5 diffusers that were not sitting flush with the LED circuit board. Can you recommend a test? Turn off the lights in the room after powering up the TV to view the brightness of the LEDs? Again, thanks for the video and I will be taking my Samsung apart again to rework the 5 diffusers.😃😃😃😃

Thanks for the video. My 65” had 35 lens that came off. Can’t say much for Samsung’s workmanship. The pieces of the tv were very brittle and fragile. Be extremely careful when removing the frame. You would think that there would be a class action suit against Samsung for poor workmanship.

Got brand new 85 inch sony bravia from best buy , Guess what ,got same bright spots on bottom , got it replaced with another brand new one same bright spots., replaced with another one same problem , replaced another one same bright spots , now m tired of replacing TV,s . But can't get rid of these bright spots.Could you imagine quality control of Sony , How can they pass all TVs with same problem. I can't even think of opening and repair it , coz it's brand new TV.Was thinking if there is any setting or software update etc could fix this problem.

I thought I did! I used Harbor Freight 5-minute epoxy, which cost $1/pkg. You mix the two tubes together and apply tiny drops to the LED strip (not to the lens cap) with a toothpick. Press the cap down and don't touch it again for at least 5 minutes. One thing I might not have shown (in this video) - you have to make sure that all of the old glue has been scraped away or melted off of the LED strip. Lens caps have to sit flush. If they're replaced on an angle, undiffused light will escape from the opening and you'll see halos, especially on light color backgrounds.

Hi there, after I fixed 4 reflectors and closing the TV, a week or 2 the screen got more pink-ish. I think I did the 2 reflector sheets in the correct order: Lowest is the stiff one with the rough side facing the reflectors, then above the stiff panel, the flexible panel with the shiny side facing the stiff panel. Is this correct?

Thanks for this feed. I had to fix 4 reflectors and put the whole thing back together. The white circles were gone, great thanks to your help in this video. After a week or 2, on the right side corner a pink spot appeared with an triangle shape of 3 cm horizontal lenght, 3 cm vertical; in addition The entire screen got a bit more pink-ish. Question is where this comes from; any relation with the repair of the reflectors, or the effect of opening the flat screen and removing the panels? What to do?

I don't see how regluing diffuser caps could have caused these symptoms, especially weeks after the fact. It's more likely that the LEDs have started to change color and that the one in the corner is the most affected. For an idea of what might be going on, please watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpiWpoSXg7BjgNE "LCD/LED TV Repair Secrets - Dark Blue Picture." What to do? You may be able to restore neutral tint by adjusting picture settings. Otherwise, if the symptoms continue to worsen, consider replacing the LED strips. Lots of good info in the blue-tint video. As per beloofd question what is the correct position of the stiff white reflectorpanel (rough side below); or could it be that due to handling the TV set the thin carton sheet around the LEDs is not in the correct position, having shifted a bit? In my experience, every display panel assembly is different. I've seen as few as two and as many as four layers. In all cases the thick, white plastic sheet is on the bottom. Having made the mistake of NOT paying attention to the order of assembly the first time I fixed a TV with this problem, I'm now very careful to keep the sheets in exact order as I remove them. For what it's worth, here are some (top to bottom) assembly notes I made on a (3-layer) Vizio Model D40-D1 TV: TOP 0) LCD (3 layers under the LCD) 1) Thin, frosted diffuser. Frosted side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 2) Thin, silver-color reflector. Rough side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 3) Thick, white-color plastic sheet. Smooth side facing viewer. Rough side facing LEDs. Note that this is the reverse of how the other two layers are oriented. BOTTOM And here are some (top to bottom) assembly notes I made on a (4-layer) Vizio Model M422i-B1 TV. 0) LCD (4 layers under the LCD) 1) Thin, frosted diffuser. Frosted side facing viewer. Shiny side facing LEDs. 2) Thin, silver-color reflector. Grainy side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 3) Clearer, thin, silver-color reflector. Grainy side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 4) Thick, white-color, hard plastic sheet. Smooth side facing viewer. Grainy side facing LEDs. Note that this is the reverse of how the other three layers are oriented. Remember every TV is different. My initial mistake was on an Insignia 42" model. When the sheets were reassembled in the incorrect order the result was a very strange looking picture, one that was difficult to watch unless the viewer was directly in front of the TV. Regarding the halos you're observing around the affected LEDs, best seen on a bright white screen, that's a gluing problem. Light is escaping from under the caps. They're easily corrected, but you will have to take the TV apart again...

We really cant catch a break with these LED TVs, I've got this issue on a small 32" 2018 screen, but I had to do a much more difficult repair on a 60" that had the bad filter coating on the LEDs themselves, causing them to put out a very harsh purple light. Had to replace the entire grid, but thankfully the replacement was not that expensive.

I've had very good luck with Harbor Freight 5-Minute Epoxy (product shown about 8 minutes and 30 seconds into the video). It's strong enough to keep the caps from falling off again but weak enough so that you can easily twist them off in case you need to. @5:14, what's the name of the tinted panel/film that you are removing here? The reason why I ask is on my Samsung TV I have a 2x5mm hole/chip in the film so that area is constant bright white. Though small its quite noticeable - Is there a way to improve the display. Ie, buy a small sheet of this film materials and 'patch' the area? Or do i need to replace the entire component?

The sheet I'm lifting at 5:14 is the LCD (liquid crystal display). Be very careful trying to patch it. LCDs are very fragile, easily cracked, and while they can be replaced, they're just not available. Try not to press very hard. If you crack the LCD, the screen will fill with colored lines kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYC4ZoWMqKunbZI and the TV will be scrap. I'm not sure how someone would fix the problem you describe. Even if you filled the hole with a tiny bit of dark caulking, wouldn't it then show up as a dark spot on a light background? My Samsung curved 55UHD has the same issue. Also, I now know why it had a bit of uneven bright place since I bought it. It just had one of these lenses not attached proper. Well, after 6 years it fell off. Still in doubt to buy a new one, as opening it up is not without risk either.

We also own a (flat) Samsung UN55JS7000F UHD TV (manufactured 2016). The uneven bright place that you mention was in the upper left corner of the display. Within 18 months, a number of LED strips at the very top of the display became intermittent. Sometimes they would light. Sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes they would come on after a while. Until then, the top of the screen was dark. Aftermarket LED strips were cheap enough on Aliexpress, so after taking the TV apart to confirm the part numbers, I ordered a set, installed them, and the TV has been fine ever since. If you decide to fix yours, be advised that you have to very careful handling LCDs over 50". If not supported carefully, they are easily cracked. To minimize that possibility, I made two stretchers from 1" x 2" wood strips, covered them with split foam pipe insulation, and got a second person to help me. While I lifted one side of the LCD (hands at 1/3 and 2/3 length for even support), my helper slipped a stretcher under that side. Repeat for the other side. Easy enough now for two people to safely transport the LCD to a second work table. I hope this extra info helps. @@LawrencePina Thanks to your guides, I have fixed it today. Used two window -carrying-things with two rubbers each to pull off the glass. Glued the one lens with three small drops of epoxy applied with a bamboo pick. Used a couple of rolled up towels to make sure that pressure was distributed. Before I started, I cleaned the whole room, and send the kids out to avoid any dust between the white sheet and the black panel. The thing is brand new now. Good thing that you can still screw these open. The next models probably will be glued like phones, or snapped together.

Great video does it matter what side the thick diffuser sheet lays toward led strips -one side is smooth and other rough.

Generally, the smooth side of the thickest, lowest layer, faces the layer above it and the grainy or rough side faces the LEDs. Generally, the smooth side of the thickest, lowest layer, faces the layer above it and the grainy or rough side faces the LEDs. The other layers generally go together like this: Vizio Model M422i-B1 display panel disassembly notes (4 layers under the LCD): 0) LCD (the top layer) 1) Thin, frosted diffuser. Frosted side facing viewer. Shiny side facing LEDs. 2) Thin, silver-color reflector. Grainy side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 3) Clearer, thin, silver-color reflector. Grainy side facing viewer. Smooth side facing LEDs. 4) Thick, white-color, hard plastic sheet. Smooth side facing viewer. Grainy side facing LEDs. Hi Lawrence i enjoyed your video and i have a couple of questions. First off i have a 5 yr old Samsung un50js7000 50" Flat screen and for about 2months I've had 2 white blotches at about 10 o'clock and 2nd at 2o'clock positions. Yesterday a 3rd blotch showed up at around the 12 o'clock position and i called Samsung and they went thru the settings remotely and they reset the tv to its original position when i bought it but the blotches were still showing up. I can't afford a new tv right at this moment so i'm inclined to take it apart and hope the diffusers have dropped out of position so my question for you is what type of glue did you use to put your diffusers back into place? How absurd of Samsung to do that. They know what's going on! Typical of how things are today. Deny, deny, deny, repeat anything but the truth. Countless Samsung TVs have this problem. @@techFPV5964 I've no experience with LG Nano75 series but for what it's worth, older LG and Samsung TVs often used similarly manufactured display panel assemblies which failed exactly the same way. Are things any different, now? I doubt it. Regarding the 750 built-in channels those are mostly Pluto.TV channels (which you can view for free, right now, on your phone or computer) and possibly some IP TV channels. You can add them to any TV (even old, so-called dumb TVs) with an Android TV box, an Amazon FireTV stick, a Roku stick, etc. In my opinion, that's a much better ay to add them. Hope this helps. hello and thanks for the video. I have 5 year old 50inch Samsung LED tv. About a month ago I started to see pinkish blurry spot in one area of the screen. Googled it only to find out that I have to bin my telly and get a new one. in a meantime, the pink is gone and in the very same area, a white spot just like on the video appeared instead of it. I would be extremely happy if I have the very same issue you're dealing with in the video. is there any other way (besides shaking the TV and wait for rattle sound) to find out if I have the loose diffuser lens issue? Each lens cap is held in place by three little posts and as the first one detaches from its post hole, colored light escapes causing the symptoms you describe. Once the cap detaches completely, you get a bright spot. And, once it starts, it just gets worse, meaning that upon disassembly, you're likely to find a surprising number of loose lens caps. Would super glue work to glue these back on? It isn't as viscous as 5 min epoxy and the post holes would be easier to apply a drop and align the lens properly. Thanks.

Superglues haven't worked very well for me, at least not for this purpose, nevertheless many people choose to use them. The slightly purple glow (backlights ON) you see is normal. No problem there. No data on the screen means either: 1) The screen is damaged or 2) The flat pack cables between the source driver boards and the main digital board are not inserted properly. Try reseating those cables. If that doesn't help, try disconnecting them one at a time. Light escaping from the edges and/or corners of the display is generally caused by misalignment of the diffusing and polarizing sheets located directly below the LCD. The display panel may have been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly (plastic retaining frames not snapped all the way in) or one or more of the flexible sheets may have shrunk and warped due to overheating. If that's the case, then without replacement sheets, there's really no fix for it. Did this! Found one off and 6 that were loose. Glued, cured and reassembled. Now have a dark blue screen with white blotches on the screen with streaks and a little color showing through. Reopened the back to make sure all connections were correct, reassembled and no change. Don’t know what to do now and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but those symptoms indicate a cracked LCD. If it's any consolation, no doctor can cure every patient. No matter how much experience you have, no matter how careful you are, you can't win them all. But, we can learn from our failures. I learned that the largest LCD size that I can handle comfortably, all by myself, is 50". With any size larger than that, I'll ask someone to help me and use a stretcher made from two lengths of 1" x 2" lumber (1/2" to 3/4" pipe also works) covered with foam pipe insulation. Even then, handling 65" size is scary. Please don't let this failure discourage you. I give you great credit just for trying. The local transfer station will be loaded with similar size TVs, which locals can generally take for free (provided you ask nicely), and if defeat doesn't set well with you, you can try again. Sooner or later, you'll have successfully repaired so many TVs you won't know what to do with them.

To prevent this in future. Shut off your TV/Screen when not in use or when you can. Heat from the LED is what causes the Lens to separate from the LED in time.

I don't think accidentally touching an LED would cause a problem. You have to touch failed LEDs to remove and replace them, something I've done many times, without ill effect. But, disrupting the phosphorus (yellow) film (not always present) might cause them to change color. Unfortunately, I do not. Having made that mistake once, I'm very careful now to keep the sheets together. All I know is that the thick, white plastic sheet always goes on the bottom. The thinner sheets lay on top of that. Then comes the LCD support/frame followed by the LCD, followed by a metal frame (if present) followed by the front cover/bezel. No, your friend is right. There's no evidence, not a shred of evidence that this problem can be fixed. Ask yourself, where are the videos? There aren't any. If there were any, there would be eye witness testimony (comments) from people who'd studied them and managed to fix their TVs. But there aren't any comments because there are no videos. Best to throw the TV away and buy another one. In fact, it's madness to even think the TV can be fixed. Just talking about it could get us censored here on YT.

One or two open LEDs (random black spots on the display) are very hard to see in normal use (when the TV is ON) with the LCD is in place. You really have to take the TV apart, remove the LCD (exposing the light box), then power ON to spot them. So, if you're noticing black spots on the display in normal use (when the TV is ON), it means you're looking at a lot of open LEDs (not just one or two). Entire strips of LEDs may be out. The good news is that it's relatively easy to install a new set of LED strips. No soldering is required. No special tools are required. Just take the display panel assembly apart. Remove the LCD and light up the box to confirm how many LEDs are out. Note the exact part numbers on the unlit strips, then see if you can find new replacements online. It's best to order new LED strips, not used or remanufactured. If you can find them for a reasonable price, it's generally well worth doing. Good luck and thanks for asking...

It's strong enough to hold the caps down, but not so strong that you can't twist them off again should you ever need to replace the LED. One other tip, be sure to scrape off all of the old glue from the LED strip. The diffuser cap has to set down perfectly flush with the strip. If even one of the three mounting posts is slightly lifted, light will escape from that point causing a crescent effect. If all three are lifted, you'll get a halo effect. I can't stress this enough. Glue those caps parallel to and as close to the LED strip as possible. Be sure to remove the old glue (just from the strip, old glue on the cap is generally not a problem). Good luck. This just happened on my Samsung 6 series UN55KU6290F TV in the upper left corner,mfg,July,2016. How difficult a fix is it on this model and could something like Gorilla super glue be used?

All of the 2016 era 55" Samsung TVs that have come my way (including the 2016 Samsung UN55JS7000 we fixed 3-4 years ago, kept, and watch almost every night) have had heat related problems in the top four rows of LEDS. Typically: "The TV turns on but the top of display is noticeably dark, as if the upper row(s) of LEDs is/are not lit. After a while, the LEDs may turn on all by themselves and the display will be evenly lit, except for the extreme upper left corner, which always remains dark." I suspect your TV is starting to have similar problems. The only way to know for sure is to take it apart to examine the LED strips. In addition to the unlit section in the upper left corner, you're likely to find other LEDs in the top four rows that are dim or unlit, as well as noticeably burned areas on either the left or right halves of upper strips. In that case, you might be able to make one good strip from two bad ones, by swapping halves. What about the damaged strips? In most cases, brand new, aftermarket, replacement LED strips are available on aliexpress.com, at very reasonable prices. Carefully note the part numbers stamped on the strips that have failed. Order replacement strips from vendors listing brand new, aftermarket stock. Stay away from remanufactured OEM strips. Try NOT to order new OEM strips. Also, if you want to receive aftermarket replacements in this lifetime, stay away from Caniao shipping service. Pay a few dollars extra for something faster. How hard is it to effect this repair? Removing and replacing entire LED strips is easy. Getting a 55" TV apart without mishandling/cracking the LCD is not. Spread out some blankets. Make a stretcher from two lengths of PVC pipe, 1x2 lumber covered with pipe insulation or something like that, and get a friend to help you lift the LCD off the light box (without flexing it). Sound scary? Maybe, but if you read through the comments, lots of people having no prior experience, have successfully fixed their TVs after watching this video. First time is always the hardest... I've no experience with the glue you suggest. I know the HF epoxy I use works fine. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

@@LawrencePina The display in the upper left corner is evenly lit all the time. The white spot is only visible when the picture is bright and disappears when the picture is darker. I noticed tonight as the room got darker the picture got darker and turning on the light would brighten the picture. That has never happened before. I turned off the ECO sensor and the picture is bright all the time even in the dark,so I think the ECO sensor is also acting up. The glue I mentioned is something similar to Crazy Glue.(clear liquid and super strong bond) Thanks for replying.
