Great video. Keep up the excellent work. I look forward to your videos in 2016. There is always something good and useful in all your videos. Some people are always looking to criticize and find fault with other people. They are probably jealous.

the LCD is glass for sure. Not plastic. It's actually more complicated to make LCD on plastic. And that's why LCD TV can break easily. Making LCD on plastic makes them shatterproof

great video.
@XanCraft216 жыл бұрын
I can tell you some uses for some of those parts. If you have a plasma ball with the electric things inside the glass, put one of the fluorescent tubes near it, it will glow slightly from the static coming from the plasma ball. For the LCD screen, remove the driver and the wires with the black rectangle things on it, and get a 9 volt battery, and rub the wires on the contacts and you will get vertical lines on the screen. That only works if you don’t see the small silver rectangles on the glass near the contact things. Also the screen is glass, not plastic.

Sorry, some funny effects are not what I call useful.

DrCassette sorry but I didn’t really mean them to be useful, I meant just for to keep you occupied for a short time when there’s nothing to do. That’s what I do sometimes.

That metal back panel was very suitable to cut out some shielding for power supplies etc
@lelandclayton54628 жыл бұрын
There was a point I was getting tons of LCD panels from friends and family. Nine times out of ten they stopped working because of the power supply but a simple recap didn't always work so the panels I couldn't fix I would tear down and keep the acrylic sheets for building custom enclosures for projects. You can use most typical wood working tools to cut it / shape it.

That funky filter is distributor. It distribute back light uniformly throughout the screen. So that each pixel, either farther away from the edges or nearer to the edges receives adequate amount of LED light!

Cool. Now we see whats inside in that screens. A kid broke his parents tv screen and they give me the broken tv to me if I can fix it I can keep it. So I ordered only the Screen from LG. It was almost the price of a new TV but I managed to replace the screen and now I have a new 46 inch screen tv. I throw into the trash the broken 46" LG screen into the trash without opening it. But as we can see it could get some parts to do something else. Even a light table or something.

You are all wrong about the funky thing. It is actually the polarizer, that polarizes the backlight it order to make the LCD to work.

@VintageElectronicsGeek8 жыл бұрын
That "funky screen" is actually called a fresnel, these things are used to help amplify an image, back in the 70's~80's they were a popular way to amplify portable TV screens as an add on, they are also used on motorhomes on the back window, you'll also find them inside SLR & DSLR cameras (also called a focusing screen), when you unmount a lens, you'll see the mirror, to the top of that, you'll see the screen, (it may have markings on it that offer feedback to the user). Since they amplify light, guess what...thats right, they amplify the Sun and they do it very well, um I should say, dangerously well! To learn more about thier power, just search on YT, but let me point you to this video (not mine): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKPNlmppet5-l8k , enjoy!
@Ts64518 жыл бұрын
+Vintage Electronics Geek The "funky" film is not a Fresnel lens, it is a sheet of prism film(also known as brightness enhancement film). They are sheets with prism ridges on one side, and work by a combination of reflection and refraction increase the amount of light emitted forward through the LCD panel. Of course, this means the screens will be dimmer at angles far from the 90 degree, but in most cases people do not view screens at those angles. Liquid crystal display panels do not have Fresnel lenses, but they are often used in projection displays.

Surprised how casual you were in regard to the CCFLs, even after breaking one. While my understanding is that the amount of mercury/other elements being released isn't cause for too much concern, I was curious if you were in complete agreement with that summarization or had any further insights. I simply ask because you sound as though you're well versed in these materials, and I broke one a few years back, myself. I also have a few intact ones I need to dispose of right now.
@DrCassette3 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about these things, the CCFL broke which indeed would have better been avoided, but there is no point making a great fuss about it on video. I thoroughly washed my hands and wiped the table off with alcohol after the disassembly was complete, that should have been enough. Mercury as far as I know is only dangerous when inhaled or eaten, skin contact is no problem, certainly not with such a small quantity.

i dont want to complain or something, it was a very good video, but the high voltage part can be fixed easyly... you just need a replacement inverter (ebay) these things cost about 4,50€ shiped and than you just need to tac it into the power supply of the tv. they need between 12 and 24V and the backlight would be fixed. like i said not complaining but just a advice for the next time :) i have a couple of monitors and small tv's fixed like this myself :)

Since the lcd panel is the TV itself, I wonder how hard it would be to make it work without any back peice, cause I'm trying to do that right now as a test on a TV and eventually a monitor for a smaller see through display that I can place on the side of my pc case. Any idea how hard this would be to do with a few years of experience in this feild?
@DrCassette3 жыл бұрын
LCD panels typically have an LVDS connector that connects to the circuit boards in the back. You can get very small circuit boards on Ebay that just convert VGA or HDMI to LVDS. You can not use the panel without any additional circuit board because LVDS is not used as video output on any equipment. There are different types of LVDS connectors, so you have to make sure the adapter circuit board fits your LCD panel. Also of course you still need a power supply for the circuit board and the backlight in the panel.

Would it be possible to rip an led tv screen apart from its housing and repurpose the screen alone for another project?? I'd imagine I'd need to source out a driver to get the screen to work, but is that possible in theory? I've seen videos out there of people repurposing screens from broken laptops into standalone monitors, so that's basically the same idea I'm referring to but just on a larger scale.
@DrCassette7 жыл бұрын
For some LCD panels there are adaptor boards available. They convert DVI or HDMI to a signal that the panel can work with. You'll have to do some research though to find a board that matches your panel.

So how does the light or screen gets transmitted to the platform .? Is it the side reflecting light to the platform wall .?

It's a combination of reflection and diffusion of light. There are much better resources on how LCD screens work available in the internet. This video is not the best.

Hi guys .. I have a question and hope someone can help me .. you know when LCD screen on and if you press on the screen with your thumb .. you will see a black mark like water marks and then when you release ..It fade away ... Can someone tell me what that is? And if I press hard on it .. will I damage it? Because I have install a screen protector on a switch and I realized it's not glass but plastic .. and you know how you have bubbles when you put screen protector on .. so I pushed it hard to get the bubbles away ... So by doing that , did I damage the LCD screen underneath? Thanks guys
@DrCassette4 жыл бұрын
LCD screens should not have pressure applied to them. They can self-restore to a certain point, but if you push too hard a dark trace will remain. And of course there is a risk of cracking the screen. Do not push on air bubbles, they will not disappear. You have to carefully work them out to the side of the screen.
@kk-yy8oi4 жыл бұрын
@@DrCassette thanks for the advise ... I ended up placing another screen protector because the previous one was hard to remove bubbles ... And I didn't realize if you peel the edge and place it again , the bubbles will be gone...But that was too late since I already pressed it hard on the first try... But afterall .. the screen has no dark mark remain in the screen , so I guess I didnt do any damage and like you said it recovered.

Do you know if there's a chance for liquid crystal fluid to leak out of the monitor? If so is it dangerous?
@DrCassette5 жыл бұрын
The crystal is sealed between two layers of glass. If you don't break the glass, you're safe.
@natethegreat54705 жыл бұрын
@@DrCassette thanks, the glass isn't broken at least to my knowledge. So the fluid can't leak out of the case where the buttons are for example? @DrCassette5 жыл бұрын
It's not like an LCD monitor is filled with crystals like a fish tank is filled with water. There is a tiny amount between the glass layers that will not even come off the glass if you crack the panel. You'd have to smash the glass apart and lick the pieces for it to become dangerous.
