My father was a plank owner on the LCS(L)(3)-24... She picked up 42 survivors of the USS Bush at Okinawa on 6 April 45 and was hit by a kamikaze while protecting the USS Sterrett on 9 April 45...

Were any LCL's used in the Normandy landings? - I always got the impression there was no maritime close artillery support available on those beaches
@64MDW
@64MDW 3 ай бұрын
No. All the LCS Ls were assigned to the Pacific. There was close fire support at all the Normandy beaches provided by the RN, USN, and RCN as well as representative ships from the French, Polish and Norwegian navies.
