LG Maik 73 DG5YHS

a positive aspect of air and space equipment is the lack of potting. very nice layout, the electromechanical system is very intriguing. Merci!

Crazy how much machining went into each of these things.

Affascinante! E amcora funziona dopo 70 anni ! !

5654, also known as 6AK5, is a very good VHF amplifier tube ... they used to use these in set-top/outboard VHF preamplifiers for TVs in the 60s into the 70s is where I saw them.

*Inside a Vintage Radar Tuner TN-131/APR-9: Teardown and Analysis* * *0:14** Radar Tuner Background:* The video explores a TN-131/APR-9 radar tuner, a component of the APR-9 radar warning system used in aircraft like the B-47 bomber. [From Comments] The APR-9 is more specifically identified as a Radar Warning Receiver. * *1:28** Klystron Local Oscillator:* The tuner utilizes a 2K48 reflex klystron as its local oscillator, with frequency adjusted via a plunger mechanism. * *1:53** Dual Cam System:* Two cams are employed: a fixed cam for setting the klystron frequency and an adjustable cam for modifying the central frequency of the input filter. * *2:09** Bandpass Filter:* A waveguide bandpass filter, adjustable via screws, ensures a constant frequency difference between the local oscillator and the central frequency. * *3:20** Servo Control:* A geared DC motor and a likely synchro transmitter are used for servo control of the frequency setting. [From Comments] The synchro transmitter likely connects to a remote indicator to display the tuner's frequency. * *6:10** IF Preamplifier:* A separate module houses a four-tube IF preamplifier using 5654 (6AK5) tubes, powered externally. [From Comments] The 5654/6AK5 is known for its use in VHF TV preamplifiers. * *8:02** Mixer Diode:* A 1N26 diode serves as the mixer, combining the input signal with the local oscillator frequency to produce the IF signal. * *10:48** Potentiometers and Voltage Regulation:* Two large wirewound potentiometers are present, likely for controlling reflector voltage and providing feedback for servo control. OB2 voltage regulator tubes are also identified. * *13:52** DC Motor:* A 28V, 0.7A General Electric DC motor with a built-in brake drives the mechanical tuning system. * *15:38** Limited Testing:* Due to the lack of a suitable power supply, full functionality testing was not performed. I used gemini-1.5-pro-exp-0801 to summarize the transcript. Cost (if I didn't use the free tier): $0.06 Input tokens: 15555 Output tokens: 526

It isn’t a radar unit that is I believe from an ELINT system. It is from an ESM/ECM receiver that with different tuner units could cover 1GHz-10GHz.

Great stuff, thanx for showing us this beautiful tech. No need to be sorry for the pronounciation: French accent sounds so good, you could call us all "d4mn m0therfuckers", and we would still be flattered 😀
