If I gave such woeful answers, with such a lack of information and oversight on spend in my job, I’d get fired. Only in the government do they get away with this level of obfuscation, private businesses have no tolerance for this. Good on this guy for putting these people to a standard level of budgetary inquiry.

See his eye brows lift on that one...DFAT, taking away Australians rights but giving money to terrorist organisations
@paulcolburn38553 жыл бұрын
I think they were "aware" they just didn't care. What they really were hoping is that the Senator was not "aware" because they never would have mentioned them to him. When he was "aware" they gave him some song-and-dance that it was just "reports" or well, look at the 44% unemployment, think about how much WORSE it would be if we didn't give them money? What was really happening here, is that they panel were pissed that they were being questioned and interrogated in this way. In the end, they were going to send the money to Hamas no matter how much the Senator embarassed them.
@genseven46163 жыл бұрын
"it was based on fake news" then she says that the fake news part was that the teachers were unaware. That's how dishonest people do. They claim fake news to muddy the water then say the fake part was something that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if the teachers were aware or not, did it happen?

Solid questions, not suprised they couldn't answer them consistently. DFAT's literally throwing money at people and expecting results. If that isn't both irrational and reckless, I don't think there's anything else that could qualify as such; they don't seem to care who it throws taxpayer dollars at, either.
@Velts1256 жыл бұрын
Pavle Kobilarov They don't care. These are ideological driven people who are incapable or unwilling of achieving anything substantive toward society. So they throw millions of taxpayer dollars towards a cause that has a ill defined goal. And they don't care what the outcomes might be, so long as they can sit back and feel good about themselves because... They have "done something about it".

Internal processes in the public service preferentially enlist and promote women and minorities. This explains the inept performance of many Public Servants in the Committees. People who do not achieve their positions through merit on a level playing field are unlikely to be highly competent, and will generally behave in a defensive rather than open-handed manner, in order to camouflage their incompetence.
@cbisme64144 жыл бұрын
In all of these I've watched the men sit there saying nothing and defer to the females on their panel. Don't they know what their department is doing or do they just put their hand out for their salary and leave the work to their staff obviously not knowing what's going on?

Solid questions but evasive answers. Without real teeth and the willingness to use them, the Senate Estimates committees will continue to face such stonewalling. Also and curiously, everyone else in the room has their personal name on display together with their surname, e.g., 'Senator David Leyonhjelm', but only Ms Yu has her personal name obscured and reduced to initial letters, i.e., 'Ms HK Yu'. Such preferential and discriminatory treatment has no place in government. Equal treatment requires that either all persons have their personal name or all have only their initials on display.

Our Government has not got a clue where the Foreign Aid money goes! Its like you have teenager say 13 years old (under legal working age) and you give that teenager say $50 a week in pocket money, shouldn’t you make sure that your teenager is not spending this money on illicit items such as drugs, alcohol or cigarettes? Don’t you have a right as the money provider to ask where the money is going and what is it being used on? An if the answer you are given in response seems suspicious then don’t you also have a right to withdraw providing further money?

The senator wants to know where the money is going and what is the benefit to those concerned.Not that the money is being donated but where it is used.I see lack of information on part of the committee as to who gets the money.And why we should continue to support such a cause.Know about the reports and still responds about fake news.So who who knows about their report if it is fake news or truth.
@credenza15 жыл бұрын
Excuse me. Miss HK clearly stated that the money is specifically being spent on a whole lot of impressive sounding cookie-cutter NGO-type objectives with some vague relation to education and health - or something. You cant get any clearer than that. You're just nitpicking. Next you'll be asking for an audit.
@ChuddmasterZero5 жыл бұрын
This is the fundamental problem with the current tax structure not just in Aus but in most 1st world nations. Instead of leaving citizens with the lion's share of the money they freely generate from their labour, and allowing them to express their own individual values by directing that money towards those things that they personally deem as important, the government appropriates a load of our money by force and decided for us where tax funds will be spent. In my view it is so transparently immoral, yet this is the norm in so many countries. I have ZERO personal interest in funding many, if not all of these international projects, yet I have no choice. As a taxpayer I am forced to contribute to schemes that in no way reflect my personal values. The fact that these bureaucrats are so naive about the groups they fund is just extra salt in the wound.

im confused... if an org contributes to anti peace things...and its given money in foreign aid, but they make sure its spending the money on specific things ...doesnt that just free up their other money for more anti peace spending? i mean foreign aid shouldnt exist imo but still enabling money to be spent on terrorism lets say is no different than giving them money and saying spend it on what you want. especially for a people who are in financial trouble primarily because they spend so much money on anti peace efforts

So, in other words, these women are great at dodging questions, but not real smart when it comes to the fact they are throwing money away... in particular to a representative of the United Nations, itself a non-elected private company! When was the UN voted into our sphere of necessary organisational groups, and when did the UN start giving credence to groups associated with terrorism and anti western rhetoric? Maybe we have just found another way to fight international crime AND save Australian taxpayers considerable money! Maybe we need to look at the relevance of the UN in its condoning of terrorism!?
