Some decor is absolutely timeless - the last Queen of France sure had exquisite taste - perfect taste! These rooms must've seemed all the more grand back in the 18th century - Versailles and etc are amazing today but, to properly appreciate them a person must try to place his mindset back into 1780's .... must've seemed like heaven on earth!

Heavenly? For her and the other Royals, maybe. And all the while, her lower class subjects were starving and suffering, while she enjoyed luxury. Yeah. Heavenly. Too bad it wasn't that way for THEM, UNTIL they got rid of the monarchy. 🙄 I bet at the end, she wished she hadn't been so extravagant, and had helped her subjects, instead of causing them to become so desperate. Her hatred of her own subjects, bred hatred in them, for her and all others in the ruling class, sealing their downfall and destruction.
@Napp28
@Napp28 2 жыл бұрын
@@janicem9225 hey there, thanks for your lengthy reply. Although court life was extravagant you have to remember that such extravagance kept many ppl employed, housed & fed. Take this boudoir for example: it employed the ppl who designed it, the men who imported the materials, the craftsman who built it, the furniture makers and fabric sewers etc. These luxuries didn't fall from the sky; people were paid to create and maintain them. In an era before the industrial revolution the Monarchy was the main source or employment in urban areas. Als, Marie Antoinette actually preferred the simple life; choosing the Trianon as her favourite dwelling (not sure if you have been but; it is just a small residence.) Also; when The Queen decided to wear less formal clothing it caused an outrage among the silk manufactures inside France. She was damned if she did live in extravagance & damned if she didn't. Also, the real suffering and bloodshed of the people of France occurred after the revolution was underway when the King was dead and Maximilian Robespierre was executing ppl by the THOUSANDS.

OMG the history alone is mind boggling. The artistry of the tapestries being recreated, overwhelming. How beautiful it must have been. Although must not forget how the French people lived in squalor and substandard and deplorable conditions. It seems we have learned nothing from history, what a pity. Admirer from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

"Substandard," according to what standard? Europe at that time? During the 18th century, the standard of living in France was actually higher then in most of Europe. France was considered the most sophisticated country in Europe, and led the continent, not only in the arts, but the sciences as well. There were multi factors which led to the French Revolution, and not the preposterously simple narratives espoused in many history books.

I love how you restored everything. I watched to help me design a room somewhat like it for myself. I made the walls thicker at the window. I put in a close to the window one sided mirror to bring in light. I put a lush curtain next after the mirror and then a chandelier hanging over the bed. I then put a screen closing from left and right with ornate carved wood designs. You can see out but not see in too well. Next the front of the wall curtain you have on the bed and window. The inside left and right wall is decorated with flowers painted I can't afford embroidery. My walls and ceilings are just white. I thank you for taking care of such treasures. Grace

The original fabrics will be stored most likely in a vault for safe keeping. When tourist arrive, they want to see fresh and new fabrics such as Marie-Antoinette would have seen when she resided in le boudoir. The English have their Queen Elizabeth and the French have their Marie-Antoinette both favorable for tourism. The viewing window was to make sure the marriage was consummated to produce an heir, this practice was also done in England and several European countries ... quite the custom.

The companies that rehabilitate these pieces of furniture could could sell the fabrics and borders online to those who want to rehabilitate Empire, Louis XVI,etc. furniture. Why do you think the French do a poor job of promoting their treasures? Quite the contrary as France is one of the most visited countries in the world. People come from all over the world to see these treasures. To mass produce as you are suggesting would cheapen these treasures. Everything is not about money here. These were made for a queen and as such should be at the highest level of quality. There are many reproductions one can find to do as you are asking.

Absolutely gorgeous, however, do not purists not want to change the fabric on chairs for originality? It is fascinating to see the original look of the fabrics however I see many high end antique dealers not changing the fabrics for authenticity. The principals, mainly Marie herself, sat on the original fabrics. I am not sure changing them out adds value.
