This French Revolutionary Song Based-Composition by Armand Mestral is about The national French Army suppressing the Commune at the end of May during La semaine sanglante ("The Bloody Week") beginning on 21 May 1871. After the siege The national forces killed in battle or quickly executed between 10,000 and 15,000 Communards (Supporters of the Commune), though one unconfirmed estimate from 1876 put the toll as high as 20,000. Chilling song. Originally, I thought this was about french soldier deserting during WW1. But with the lyrics this song has a more chilling themes. Good song

can someone explain to me the widow at 1:15? what does the armband have to do with the situation? did she get shot or not? I also don't really understand the kid at around 2:00, what's up with him?
@Ptoly

The "Tri-Colored armband" is the flag of France which means that she isn't apart of the rebellion and her husband really did fight for the French I don't really understand your question but most of the people were held against the firing squad for no reason, just like the 13 year old. It basically just resembles the unjust/disorganized state of the french army to the point that they'd arrest a 13 year old and the many false convictions that happened during the paris commune massacre

For the tricolor armband, the Commune was notably triggered by battalions of the National Guard. Many were created to defend the country after the defeat of Napoleon III. Disappointed by the conservative Republic, the National Guards of the popular districts federated to manage themselves and took red armbands as a sign of rallying. In opposition, the others remained faithful to the "Versaillais" took blue-white-red armbands (tri-colored armband). So the widow proves she's on the same side as the captain. But the repression is so blind that it is also shot. And for the kid, his story is similar. The whole song wishes to show that the repression was so violent that the soldiers condemned everyone: men, women, children, old people, communards like, neutrals and supporters of the government. So the child is there like a figure of innocence killed by blind and massive repression.

The armband is separate from the widow situation. The widow and the armband-wearing-person are two different people. I'm not sure about the kid.

@@emilienlefevre7305 oh damn, so everyone in the song was shot? I knew that the song was about how the people of the commune were reppressed and stuff, but I thought that some people in the song escaped execution (like the guy who makes a list of communists or the priest or something)

Nop, that's a song about the military repression following the 1871 Commune de Paris. A french commanding officer going through the parisian population to designate who will be shot, and who won't. The wall is likely the "Mur des Fédérés" (Federal's wall). The parisian who rebelled and tried to set up a parisian government nicknamed themselves the federals, by opposition to thr centralised government in Versaille. Or the "Communards", those of the Commune de Paris, which will later give the word Communist, even though communism has very different revendications.
