Crazy that each and every one of those little bones represent a person who lived a life, who laughed, cried, wanted, and loved. Really makes you think about how small our existence really is, because when it's over, you're just another addition to the pile of bones.

Culture differences: 1. American discovering abandoned catacombs: "Did you see that?" "I heard voices!" "It got colder right here!" "I feel an uneasy presence!!" "I'm getting out of here!!!" 2. French discovering abandoned catacombs: History lessons. It's also so awesomely French that they put up a grave for Philibert Aspairt.. who died down there looking for treasure - which was bottles of liquor.

I once went out with an engineer whose job it was to strengthen the walls of the St Martin Canals in Paris. He was supposed to fill in with concrete the hollows surrounding the canals and he told me that they found many huge rooms, even furnished with chandeliers etc where people had lived from the 19 th century onwards. His job was to block them and fill them in ! So sad but there are hundreds of miles of underground tunnels in Paris with many rooms.

Great video: - No exaggerated horror music / sound effects / heavy video editing just to make things scary. - Great cameraman & edit (scenes are always shooting the guide walking towards the camera) instead of shooting the persons butt in front of them & keep yelling hurry up! - The guide was exceptional, great historian, simple explanation & very calm. He chooses to sit & explain. Unlike some videos, they become breathless while they walk & talk. - The short cuts thru the main holes was a treat, because almost every catacomb videos features too much on the railway entrance, the graffiti & especially the pile of bones / skulls. - Kudos to the guide again when he fixes the main hole while exiting. Although it's illegal to enter the catacombs but this shows how he cares & respect. - Lastly, when the guide lights up an oil lamp, you know this guy is the real deal. Thanks for reading. Regards from Malaysia.

It's actually a carbide lamp, commonly used by miners in the past. The pellets he filled the bottom with are calcium carbide (CaC2) and he filled the top reservoir with water. A controlled drip of water falls onto the calcium carbide, producing acetylene gas (C2H2) which is flammable. Agree, great video. I love that he has all the appropriate equipment, wears rubber boots, old pants, but also his fancy watch XD

+SheldonLudlow their isn't anything to limit the flow of gases. The air gets thin usually at really high altitudes where the molecules are far apart. The only reason you probably get that instinctual thought about the air being thin down underground is because we naturally associate being deep underground with an inability to breath, because pressure is exerted on our lungs.

Theses are the guys Id trust down deep to get you out safe as fuck. They know parts that no other video shows, With no or very minimal graffiti you see the beauty in the tunnels mush better. Notice he never gets his feet wet like a boss 👊 Shares knowledge and took the time to add subtitles thank you. And probably one of the very few that knows every tunnel / levels even by the whales and secret short cuts. This is the guy you want heading up the search and rescue for deep deep wander. Respect

48 years ago when i was 7 I lived in a house in Harborne, Bhma, UK. Behind the house was a large patch of wasteland where we had bonfires & kids played etc. One day I was playing there & I found hundreds of small black & white photographs of what I now know are the catacombs. However at the time I was horrified & so were my sisters & parents. My dad took all the photos away & desroyed them because he & my mom thought they were to do with stan. It was 1972. Ive never forgotton it & I would love to go there one day.

Yeah its litterally impossible, the only way to get to all of it is to stay down there and have water,food, and lights and batteries for weeks. It's like going from fort worth to san Antonio walking and than walking back. You would have to live down there temporarily to do the whole thing

@NaomeK404 жыл бұрын
@Simon you dont know what you're talking about ... There's places where you have to squeeze through literall "walls of bones". Bones of your ancestors beneath your feet, over your head and pressing against your sides . I've never had a more humbling and terrifying experience... ever. Je peux t'assurer aussi que y a des personnes de tout genre qui viennent dans les Cata et la plupart des graff sont en Français donc je vois pas ce que t'appelle "distinctly French" -.- It has nothing to do with being foreign or not, respecting history or whatever. In the end bones are just bones... one day when the last person that remembered you or your dids dies then you become just like every bone down there unamed, inconsequential, forgotten. Like most of the human race really🙂
@jan32112004 жыл бұрын
@Simon ... he said 200 yrs ago cops were tagging the area too... So yeah it's not foreigners

The irony of graffiti is that it supposed to be a mark individuality but in reality makes everywhere in the world look the same.

@@druidofthefang By 'culture' do you mean any given populated area on the planet that has a written alphabet and is within a 25 mile radius of a shop that sells spray paints ?

@@druidofthefang I really wish that whoever programs you NPCs would update your response databases from these ubiquitous retorts such as: ignorant, uneducated, unintelligent, simple and that perennial favourite 'do your research'. Anyway I have an oil painting to complete so au revoir et bon chance with your aerosol spraying.

It may look the same to you, to me I see a culture, regional style. Uk graffiti is different to french graffiti and so on. Wether you like it or not graffiti is art with different facets, styles and disciplines. So to say it’s not individual is false just because you’re to pigheaded to embrace and understand it.
