Le chant du Diable - Hymn of French Division Charlemagne

"Le Chant du diable" is a military song where French volunteers from the Charlemagne Division quickly adapted the song "Ess Ess m4rschiert in Faindesland" into French (Spelling errors are intentional).
The Charlemagne Division was made up of the Stvrmbrigade, the LVF and men from various collaborationist organizations who withdrew from France in the face of the Allied advance. The number 33 was assigned to this division after the destruction and dissolution of the 33rd Vafem-Kavallerie der Ess Ess Division (Ungarnische Nr 4).
Charlemagne's division was one of the last units to hold out and defend Berlin from the Soviets and was one of the last to surrender.
A few years later, during the Indochina War, the chant reappeared in Foreign Legion units. Among all the combatants, there were many German legionnaires and also French volunteers from the Charlemagne Division, more or less volunteers since 1945. The paratrooper legionnaires adapted this German song to the new political conditions, but still facing the same enemy; it has since become the traditional song of the 2nd REP.
This song also exists under the title "Les Soldats marchent vers le front", for non-legionary troops, or under the title "Les Troupes d'assault"
