French fan here: I cannot express how much the first scrum means in a crunch, for both players and fans. The anticipation, the pure animal instinct of wanting to not only dominate but crush the opponent. It has to be some of the most intense moment in all sport. I love it all, and thanks england to play the part. I always loved a good crunch live as a kids.

Nothing compares for most Frenchmen with this sporting event against our best foe 🙂 This is THE game we yearn to win, amongst all sports and against all adversaries. To be honest, I used to say as a youngster that witnessing the English loose is nearly as enjoyable as watching the French win. Imagine adding both.. 40y later, I've grown up, thank God. But such a thought reveals to what extent our historic rivalry remains vivid. And thanks to the sportsmanship which prevails amongst rugby supporters, an event you can attend sitting next to an Englishman, congratulating him for his team's prowesses as well as other way round, while shouting on the boys to victory. Always a treat

As a Frenchman, I really like hearing you talking about those matches like they are some historical battles lol since France vs. England is easily my favorite rivalry in Rugby and one of my favorites in Sports in General. This rivalry is so great & balanced that you couldn't even put most of the matches in your video (6N 1987, WC 2003, WC 2011, 6N 2016, 6N 2019, 6N 2022, all those close matches between 1997-2003...etc) even if the 07 still hurts since the 07 lmao. Sir Jonny knew how to send us packing at World Cups. I can't wait for next saturday whatever the results is !

I don’t think there are two nations in the world with such complex relationships, and that for centuries. And the rivalries of the "small" history of rugby are only a reflection of those of the "big" history. We can sum it up with the title of the song by Serge Gainsbourg (who was married to an English...): Je t'aime, moi non plus (I love you, me neither). I can’t wait to be on Saturday and hear the "Swing low, sweet chariot" make Twickenham vibrate. And may the best win! And I’m also sad that the great "Jacques Ouilisse" won't be on the pitch.

It was 44-8 in 2019. Which made the 53-10 victory over England in 2023 even more satisfying because of this and the fact we didn't managed to win there in the tournament since '05 at that point in time.

As an Englishman, I really can’t bear the thought of facing the French without the Welsh by our sides - in other words, this is a game tailor-made for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, which probably means we lose this round of “Agincourt: This Time It’s Personal”. Anyway, bring on the big game, let both sets of big lads play hard but fair, and may the better team win. 😅

Twickenham has beautiful green grass and the white posts were impeccable. Unreal… a wall of thousands of supporters in a misty drizzle. The smell of hot dogs beer and the noise and bands playing. Rugby is amazing and the Le Crunch is each year a chance to gain bragging rights 😅

All the very best of luck England. Go well fellas. God bless yous. 🏴☠ ☘

Micky Skinner was not bound onto the scrum as the blind side flanker always stepped off in defence to protect the short side. I coached this for years as it was allowed because you only need the front five to remain bound, although the scrummage had to be formed with a minimum of seven.

So far, having watched / listened to more than a dozen reviews of the Ireland v England game, I’ve heard pundits and experts saying that England lost because they’re are not fit enough, inexperienced, not good enough (both as individuals and as a team), don’t have good enough coaches, Borthwick is selecting the wrong team, Marcus Smith isn’t able to control the game well enough, they are short in key areas, many of their best players are ineligible, players don’t have enough dog in them, the English Premiership doesn’t prepare them well enough, the players lack experience of “going deep” in Europe plus a bunch of other stuff I can’t remember at the moment. Mike Tindall however IMHO put his finger on it; confidence. England have lost a bunch of games and with that they are short of the confidence that France, Ireland or Scotland bring to the game (particularly when playing England). I genuinely believe that everything we’ve seen from England in the autumn and now would not have happened had the team had a collective confidence to stop that player, get this offload, put their foot on the other teams throat when they were ahead etc. Which is not to say we’d have won all of those games but that we could have won a decent percentage of them. If England get a few wins, including (hopefully, but not likely) against France then suddenly the same pundits / experts will be saying this guy is class, that guy is a worldy, the other guy is a shoo-in for the Lions. I hope we see it though the odds are against it happening.
@paolozmm2 сағат бұрын
Yeah i would agree with this. At this level where there's so much talent across many positions in all teams, its really how the mind is prepared that can add what is required to win. Mindset. Ireland thrive under Andy Farrell because he is probably the most emotionally intelligent coach in the world. he knows exactly how to drive a team culture and drive individual mindsets and confidence. Schmidt was able to build confidence in having a really rigid but dependable game plan. The players got confidence from this. Farrell more so leans on flexibility / adaptability and driving huge purpose and self belief. Galthie knows the french psyche so well and builds a confidence (almost a nice arrogance) into his team and they are thriving on it massively. England lack this. Scotland have some self doubts which feeds into spells of class mixed with spells of low quality across individual games. Wales are wales Italy have belief but skill lets them down.

For balancing sakes, you could have added a monster tackle by France, for example the one by Dupont on Heinz in 2020, round the 25th minute mark, with England having a scrum on the French 5m line. Dupont just levelled Heinz and basically stopped a possible try all by himself, sending Heinz back to Twickenham with a one-way ticket 😄

Historically, when France had a very good team, England was often the team to beat us anyway. So, beating England means a successful tournament for France even if we lose all other games. Losing to England means a bad tournament even if we win the tournament.

In the Ireland match last week, England weren’t given much of a chance - and iffy refereeing and a couple of errors stopped them from coming close to a win. At HQ, against France, every single member of the match squad will be working their socks off and I, for one, expect the spirit of Micky Skinner, Joe Worsley and Courtney Lawes to be matched by all 23 of them, giving England the win. I hope much of the coaching focus this week will have been on ensuring no unforced errors and maintaining discipline. If England can show true professionalism in these elements, they have the power and skill to match les bleus.
