Synopsis:

That's what usually every dance group does, either they will section out and give easier steps to less competent dancers or they'll completely avoid complicated steps that the least competent dancer cannot so well. Background dancers are always professional dancers and most actors aren't, so they almost always only choreograph steps that the leads can perform well

Karisma's dance and her acting was on some another level in this movie. Despite being a second lead she overshadowed Madhuri and SRK entirely throughout the movie. What a remarkable performance she gave at that time. She very much justified her National Award for this one.

Ehm... no, she did not overshadow Madhuri. Her acting was better, but her dancing was slightly worse. Karisma´s arm movements are sometimes slightly too forceful and hurried, her fingertips don´t exactly follow the movements of her arms, her torso moves very slightly when it shouldn´t move because she doesn´t balance with the knees enough, and like that. But they are just details. I´m European and Madhuri´s dancing in Dil, Aaja Nachle and Dil To Pagal Hai were a powerful motivation for me to start studying kathak. I now have a guru from Bangalore and have been studying Lucknow Gharana for 7 years. So, Madhuri changed lives by these films. But there´s no denying that Karisma´s dancing was very good here and her character Nisha left a deep impression!
