Le Havre Surrenders

(21 Sep 1944) The end of the battle for Le Havre came remarkably swiftly, after a magnificently planned operation lasting some thirty-six hours. The German garrison surrendered after their Commander had been wounded.

a shame of the RAF and senior British officers... they voluntarily and unnecessarily and knowingly bombed areas of this city where only civilians were... several thousand lost their lives under the bombs and only ....9 German soldiers...a historic town razed forever.. The British troops during the liberation of Le Havre were not welcomed with fervor on September 11 and 12, 44....NO... and my mother was 16, my father 20...they remembered the terrible and useless September 5 and 6, 44
