They had an accident at Petit Lemans 1998 in the USA where the car flipped over. All the cars sold ($1 million a piece, 25 models to reach FIA rules) to the public were recalled after high speed test at Hockeinheim confirmed the downforce problems. Porsche did develop the V-10 in the Carrera GT to race at Lemans but with Mercedes winning every race in the FIA GT series of 1998. Porsche pulled the plug and the GT1 class was soon to be on the chopping block by the FIA.
@jamiecloughgaming253874 жыл бұрын
Indeed the 1999 British GT Championship was the last to feature the GT1 class cars and 4 different GT1 class cars won races that year McLaren F1 GTR, Porsche 911 GT1, Lister Storm GTL and Sintura S99 with its V10 engine the title being won by the Lister Storm GTL. Before they caved in and we were left with boring Gt2 and GT3 class cars yawn I stopped watching for 2000 and haven't watched since... However The McLaren F1 GTR continued to race in the Japanese GT Championship until 2003 winning its final race in 2001 and scoring its final pole and podium in 2002. The Porsche 911 GT1 continued to race in America in the early 2000's.

Well if I may after the 1999 race BMW had achieved their goal of winning Le Mans outright (even if a BMW powered McLaren F1 GTR had won in 1995 indeed the LMPs used from 1998-2000 a very similar version of that very engine) were due to enter F1 in 2000 with the Williams team who had designed their V12 Powered LMP machines Toyota who had come very close to winning the race in 1994, 1998 and 1999 winning their class LMGTP in 1999 also focused their efforts from 2000 on their F1 team due to enter F1 in 2002. Mercedes (already involved in F1 with McLaren) pulled out for Safety reasons after several of their cars became airborne during the 1999 Le Mans weekend. Audi must have been rubbing their hands with glee as by default that meant their R8 LMP car was now the best Le Mans car in 2000 setting the scene for many years of domination.

given the incredibly good diesel production cars that bmw has produced in the last few years bmw should seriously consider bringing a diesel of thier own to le mans now. Actually the Peugeot 905 evo most likely handle way better than these cars, it weighed 750 kg and had 600 hp which let it do 3:22 lap times, and it wasn't that fast in the straights
@jamiecloughgaming253874 жыл бұрын
That was a Group C car and 900hp is probably more accurate had these LMGTP cars been continued to evolve they would have soon matched and surpassed the 905 have no doubt every year they were getting quicker gaining 3-5 seconds per lap around Le Mans.

LOL not even close. Well, yes, but IN A VIDEO GAME. The fastest it can go (in real life, duh! lol) is 379 km/h. Fun fact is that's what makes it the second fastest GT1 car (formerly it was a GT1 car, hence the name "GT-One"), right after the Dauer 962 Le Mans Road Car (404.7 km/h). The difference between the GT-One Road Car and track-only version is only aesthetical and it's the closest what you get to a Group C car, in terms of power and weight - GT1-style.
@jamiecloughgaming253874 жыл бұрын
@@MDDeGrande1994 In terms of lap-time though the 1999 GT-One was the quickest car to ever evolve out of that class 25 seconds quicker round Le Mans than the Dauer 962 LM.
