The more I listen to this the more I appreciate the song choice. Particularly the chorus. "Oh, you're making waves in the same old way! Times are changing, you still playin' the same old game." At first it's a reference to the old feudal lords of Europe, stuck in their ways and with their aristocratic armies, that fall to Napoleon. Yet, in turn, as those same foes who survive adapt and begin to show signs of 20th century-style warfare (defense in depth, reliance on destroying the enemy's capacity to fight over beating him in single pitched battle, scorched earth, etc.) it's NAPOLEON who's stuck in his old ways. He's incapable of securing what he won because he's still relying on the same old tactics. And so, he in turn is undone by the same changing times that brought him to power.

@@DarkBuddhist That damn Russian Emperor just wouldn't give up, huh? Kept fleeing with all of his vast tracts of land. "People should know when they're conquered" as was said in Gladiator. Yet Napoleon in turn ruined his own chances by letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. It's not like Russia could really defeat Napoleon if they marched into Europe proper. But Napoleon chased them into Russia and they had all the advantages.

Taiyama2 There was also the lack of naval dominance meaning they couldn’t trade with overseas nations as well
@derel58803 жыл бұрын
No of course not, Napoleon didn't always use the same old ways nor did the other countries adapt, they were just too many against one after Napoleon suffered the most severe strike in Russia, not because of the russian army but because of the conditions. If he was to lose battles single handedly, he would have adapted quickly and destroy them back again, he was never stuck in his old ways, he was stuck alone without proper allies.

But Napoleon's eyes were bigger than his stomach, and by dint of snacking on different countries, he came across Russia, which was stronger than him. People talk about wars, but Napoleon totally rewrote the laws and the economy of the conquered countries and of France, and created the civil code, a civil code still used today in France and in some countries, he also created high schools, and a single currency for all the French conquered territory and territories, and invented the concept of departments. He also created the medal of honour, still used today, and gave concrete expression to the concept of equality thanks to the civil code. If the British compared him to Hitler, it was because he frightened them, and they needed to belittle them, the only insult they found against him was his small stature.

Wow! The video is great! Very good job of making the visuals fit perfectly to the music! I like how Electro Swing is becoming more common in such type of videos. It surprises me, because I thought it was a pretty niche genre of music...

Although Napoleon left 4 million deaths, he managed to cause Europe to reconstruct itself and to recognize liberty and freedom, resulting in massive movements to reform the old feudal monarchies of Europe into either constitutional monarchies or republics.
