@leiyang47711 ай бұрын
There was a sequel planned, but the French public opinion were still very much lodged in the negative towards any human portrayal of the enemy soldier. The collective psyche was not ready for a reunion of this new interpretation of an old Resistance propaganda book. This film had lots of back lash when it came out in 2004 (60th anniversary of DDay). We are now in 2024, 80th coming this summer, I hope the incredible team that put this film together would give us another film that further deprogram the collective psyche not just of the French, but the world beyond, god knows, we need to have our eyes and hearts opened up. We need disclosure as for who really created these wars that caused such unspeakable suffering on such mass scale, if this was not human sacrifice, I don't know what is. When Young people can not love each other because they were supposedly enemies, we are in very deep trouble.

@@leiyang477You are quite right! Unfortunately the World seems to have learnt nothing otherwise we wouldn't have to watch so much suffering again today (December 2024). @leiyang47711 ай бұрын
@@padmacrao2158 There are still many in the French public hate the German occupation, and the women who consorted with the German soldiers. This movie met lots of backlash when it came out in 2004. That is why they shelved the sequel when Werner found his way back to Jeanne. Today if you go on some of the short documentary about French women being shaved and tormented on the streets in post war France, you will see the vehemence and hatred some the comments are towards these women. It is generational indoctrination. These are younger people who know how to use the internet but never lived through the war. Yet they hold tremendous negative emotions... So you can see, no matter how good Thomas Jouannet's performance was, he can not be give a prize, the ordinary audience in France will not receive that well, they can not distinguish the actor and his craft vs. the character the German Soldier, it is too raw. I am surprised by how the trauma of the war are still so deeply baked in the collective psyche of the French...It was the 60th anniversary of D Day when this film came out (2004), this year is 80th, I wonder if more commemorative movies will come out for WWII. Time to heal France, and Germany. Time to acknowledge the war caused suffering on all sides, and we the people had been and still are manipulated to kill each other so some can harvest the pain, because they live off our suffering (this is a truth most of us do not know).

Il silenzio lo ha fatto sentire un perdente e non un giusto. Mentre i perdenti erano i suoi amici amanti del potere per esercitare ad ogni costo. Anche Jeanne si dimostra dura e perdente. That's really chilling - romanticizing the German occupant in WW2 is rather sick. It could be felt only by someone who've never come close to an experience of dealing with the German army and the horror they spread...
@rosie25365 жыл бұрын
Abbi I German occupant were people too. Most were forced to followed the society. If they were going against the nazi or didn’t join they were ostracized by their peers. You act like you deal with nazis before and I know 100% that not true.
@abbii5 жыл бұрын
Well - never said they were not people. But does it justify occupying someone's house and murdering millions of people? If you're curious of myself - I'm third generation descendant of their victims and also I have to deal with the trauma transmitted from my grandparents and parents - in third generation (!) I also don't think it is fair, but - well - that's life, right? Also - answering the previous comment - I never said one shouldn't talk about WW2, on the contrary - I personally think talking and remembering is the only way to prevent this horror repeating ever again. My problem with this particular rendition of history is that it's subversively justifying and blurring responsibility of the German soldier for what was happening back then. Yes - it was certainly difficult to stand back to his peers, family, neighbors, SS, Gestapo and the whole system, although there were people who were brave enough to do so and paid the highest price also in those hellish days...
