Surely one of the very best opening titles ever. It creates a really moody and unsettling atmosphere and right as the garage door is closing at the end of the titles, the threat begins!

One of my favorite film openings ever...Lee Remick driving in San Francisco at night (circa 1961) in an open car to a sublime Henry Mancini score...

I purchased the movie on Amazon. I live in San Francisco and it was a treat to see the City back-in-the-day; in it's innocent glory and with an amazing Mancini score .

Saw this in theater in '62 when I was 15 yrs old. This theme has lingered in the back of my mind since then. Just out of reach, thumping along and making my skin crawl once in awhile. A truly scary movie. Stumbled across this tonight. The cast, the setting and the night shots at beginning were awesome. Acting was stellar too. Thanks!

I had been looking for a great movie for my wife and I to stream to watch. Something jogged my memory to this movie. In 1962, a high school buddy and I saw this when it first played in theaters. I remembered it after all these years. I even ordered the 45 record that had the intro theme song to this movie at the time, but have long lost it. I forgot just how great of a movie this was. The 1958 Ford was such a cool car, and to open the movie with Lee Rimick driving the convertible version, just an awesome movie. I rate this movie right up there with Steve McQueen's movie, Bullett, for entertainment.

so friggin' awesome; i've been watching and listeing to this scene and soundtrack over and over. gorgeously shot so the city looks like slinky strands of diamonds sparkling in the dark. the whole film is so deliciously spare, taut, and steely.

Wow, back in the day when the Bay Bridge Upper deck had two-way traffic. Lived my whole life in San Francisco, never knew that. Always thought the eastbound lower deck was part of the original bridge construction from the 1930's. I guess after the early 60s they retrofitted the Bay Bridge and added the eastbound lower deck; Never suspected that growing up in the 80s and 90s, driving over that bridge a million times.

Lee Remick was still beautiful, Blake Edwards' direction was masterful, and Henry Mancini's score was suspenseful and moody. It was Ross Martin's portrayal of 'Red Lynch' that was the standout in this amazing and well shot film for me.
@iansoutryer31893 жыл бұрын
Well, I'd say Lee Remick stayed beautiful until her untimely death. It was simply she wasn't that American looking, that makes her unforgettable. And Stefanie Powers wasn't yet that beautiful - in "Hart to Hart" she was at her best.

Strangely, this film seems to be older than 1962, rather like 1952. A lot of its charm is due to the fact that it is a "film noir" and that it is shot in black/white, plus Henry Mancini's music score ... and the hidden star of the film: the Ford Fairlane...
@aljustal6554 Жыл бұрын
Ross Martin had a starring role as the evil "Red" Lynch---- but I just noticed that he's not mentioned at all in the opening credits. This may have been to keep the audience in suspense about the identity of the asthmatic "bad guy" that Glenn Ford and the FBI have to go to work finding.
@taerial8798 жыл бұрын
Available on Blu-ray and DVD. I think the (yellow) 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner is the real star of this awesome neo-Noir.

Just watched this movie on TCM last night. Hadn't seen it in many years. I'd seen it several times on broadcast TV very edited. What a difference in HD and unedited! Lee Remick was stunning and the teen aged Stephanie Powers was convincing as Remick's kid sister. Glenn Ford is the no nonsense FBI agent John Ripley and Ross Martin is creepy as the villain Red Lynch. You had no internet or cell phones in 1961 but Red Lynch knew every move the Sherwood sisters made. Lynch even had the pay phone number of the malt shop to find and kidnap Toby. Loved the cars and the on location filming in San Francisco. If they did this movie today, it would be more graphic but no better than this film noir gem.

According to co-star Stephanie Powers, Martin himself suggested that his billing in Experiment in Terror be held until the film's end, lest audiences who fondly remembered him as Andamo in TV's Mr. Lucky, might not accept him in a villainous role if they knew beforehand it was him.
