While Miss Saigon was in development, Lea remembered how frightening it felt for her when she was about to rehearse the love scenes with Simon, having had no experience with a boyfriend, let alone love before. Simon could see the anxiety in Lea, so he took her and her mum aside and told them: "You can trust me. I will take care of you. Don't worry, I will not take advantage of you." With the pressure of the leading role in a world premiere musical and the entire nation watching her, as well as in light of MeToo, this obviously means so much to Lea and she'll be forever grateful to Simon that he kept his promise. You can see clearly how deep their bond goes. Great respect for Simon Bowman! 🥰

You know in a movie, seldom can one see that the sequel is more than the original HOWEVER MISS SAIGON, is definitely a stage play where the original can't be upstaged ❤️ There's something about Leah and Simon that made these roles their own. I cannot help but watch this time and time again today. I realized how Simon and Lea looked so natural in this scene as if they truly were in love. I have also watched her play this song opposite Will Chase but it is not the same. I could really feel there was a chemistry, a connection at those moment between these two artists or they were just so convincing as actors. I watched them sing this song again here in the Philippines and Simon looked at Lea with the same tenderness and love. This scene could never be replicated by them and it truly made Miss Saigon one of the best shows and Lea and Simon truly great artists.

I'm not sure that's true. There was an interview where Lea talked about losing her voice and the producers sending her to doctors and voice teachers to help her. And then she won the Laurence Olivier Award. MISS SAIGON began performances in Sept 1989 and she won the Olivier in April 1990. No idea when this special performance was filmed at the London Palladium, but it aired in December 1990.

Ok wow, as someome who has watched Miss Saigon 2024, I can say there's a vast difference SPECIALLY with how the current actor (playing chris) sings. Nigel made Chris sing this song with so much sureness and depth....but Bowman's version made Chris sound so...soft spoken. He sang this song so softly and with yearning, which I think added to the charm of the character❤

I know, right? I believe they starred together in the West End for over a year. And Lea had led a sheltered life in the Philippines - only 18 when she started in the role, had never had a boyfriend, didn't know how to kiss. She has mentioned in some concerts how lucky she was that Simon was a complete gentleman and assured Lea (and her mother, who was her chaperone the whole time) that he would take care of her and not take advantage of her.
