I love seeing your children involved in your farming operation, I believe that it gives them purpose and direction, in other words, there is more to life than what you would like to do but what is needed for the betterment of the family, community and country! Great Job Cale!

Cale, that proud papa moment there when you were walking back to your planter got me. I have been there and that moment just causes you to pause. You are multiple blessed with Laura and Ethan and the young ones to follow. Good job to you and your wife on raising good kids. Keep the content coming!

Good thing your sunglasses were on, looked like you were about to have a moment. Yes the Norther Light were able to be seen just into Alabama I guess. It was dark enough for me but tall trees obscured most of my view

I love all of you and Laura's videos. My question is, since its very important not to get the wrong seeds in the planter boxes, why wouldnt someone from the seed company be there to observe?

On the GPS issue...My operation is unaffected by GPS outages. It's a really good thing that your dad taught you the traditional way of doing it! He was really smart about that!!! I'm teaching myself about all that...and knowing how to do thing without all the tech is HARD work, but, it's all about survive, eat, sleep, improvise, overcome, adapt, CONQUER! and REPEAT!!!!!!!!

Like all your content I know the summer will be stuff to do but I also know while not from a farming family like you all hsve in Nebraska and others un other states. Many think farmers make mire thsn they do but in reality the time you all and others put in whether small farms or much larger than even what you all have it is very labor intensive. The labor may be different on different levels but still much labor involved. Also much more losses thsn gains time you account for repairs and cost of fuel and other things. As far as content I don't mind whatever you put on I'll watch it anyway I may never get to drive sny more tractors like the one John Deere i did like 40+ years ago I'm not sure ehat model but i had to drive while my dad and a neighbor who actually was the one growing hay in it went behind and stacked hay on the wagon the tractor was pulling. I didn't get to drive more but had other neigbors with farmall Ms I think and other tractors I know some had fords and some had cases before they became case ih my dad had a allis chamlers for the total of 6 acres he used it on. Snyway love watching the main videos don't watxh many of the shorts since it's mostly stuff from the longer videos. Can't wait to see when the NEXAT returns during harvest. I think more machines from other companies will be coming in yesrs to come. I hope at a lower price, however I'm dure it still will be rather expensive or other similar things from other companies when made will still be rather expensive. I expect for years to come co-ops may be the only ones purchasing similar machines. In some cases or maybe many cases it may tske multiple co-ops to do so.

Good information. One question though: how many acres can you plant with the planter that Ethan is using? How much corn seed does it hold?

When you lose GPS, Autosteer, ect, and I assume the green bar charts showing what you have planted, are you able to add in that information after the fact to maintain accurate tracking information when GPS returns?

My experience is that maize generally has to be planted is blocks. You can't really get them to pollenate themselves unless you actually intervene in it by shaking them. I can plant in a line in certain situations. If I have the conditions right where I can take advantage of a 'wind tunnel' effect, I can get away with planting in a line. So, it works if conditions are right.

Would a seed corn breeder will willing to explain in some depth that help appreciate how much we have come to know about corn genetics?

Corn breeder: Two movements, old Natual breeding: where we hand pollen different plant types in small plots, take to test, taking less than .001% due to limited success. New breeding: use of computers to trace the highlights of each inbred, then make hybrids based in unique backgrounds, also, traits are put on indreds early in their life. We now test 100 times more lines, per year than 25 years ago. That is why hybrids last only a few years, we are running at ‘light speed’ to improve field yields. 100 bu AC avg yield in 1978, 180 bu AC yield in 2023!

Someone must do it. Its super secret proprietary gentics. About a decade ago a Chinese spy was caught stealing little corn plants from a foundation seed farm.
Will I get it done?
