Leach 2R-II: Allgone Removal

Welcome to NYC, where drivers thread their massive 30 yard packers through ridiculous traffic, 8 speeds in their right hand, air horn pull cord in the left. Allgone Removal lies on the smaller end of the demolition hauler size spectrum with a two truck fleet. Sort of a one man show with Peter filling the roles of driver, dispatcher, manager, etc. It was impressive watching him juggle the phone, shifter and steering wheel without missing a beat.
We start out with a jaunt across the Queensboro Bridge, followed by a demolition job on the Upper East Side. Then to the hopper step for a taste of the 300 Cummins' song echoing off Manhattan's concrete canyon streets, and back through Brooklyn to dump a relatively small 9 ton load.
A huge huge huge thanks to Peter. You da man, and truly an inspiration for someone looking to get into the biz himself. Also thanks to Scott Watson / Trashman242 for being my partner on this trip, and especially for choosing the cab over riding the step, you missed out bro. ;) Filmed June 22, 2015.

I started my career rolling around Kansas City doing commercial dumpsters on old 2R one handle Leaches like this one. So much easier with the two handles and my right shoulder is still messed up from banging that thing around. The old Slide and lock push out bar system would either pack really good or be a big pain in the butt.

+John Sidwell I can imagine, the two handles are a huge improvement. I also didn't realize until filming the old Scocozzo 2R that those things not only had a single handle, but the linkage from the handle to the valve block ran on the inside of the tailgate! The old style ejection system sure was innovative, must've saved a ton of money up front over the telescopic cylinders everyone else was using. How were they on maintenance though? I know repairing/replacing a big old double acting 4 stage cylinder isn't cheap.

As always, phenomenal work here, George! I've really been enjoying all of the in-cab, riding step, and unloading shots you've been able to deliver in your past few uploads. It truly adds a whole new perspective that so few of us are able to enjoy, and even fewer yet are able to film. So major kudos there! Really adds a whole new layer of depth to the videos! On another note, one thing I found interesting here, and I'm sure I've seen it before and it's just now dawning on me, is that all of those little demo cans appear to have originally been fabricated for a Lodal-style triangular hook-up front loader. For whatever reason, I think it would be really rad to see these tiny little cans get manhandled by some old, beefed up front loader lol

+Thrash 'N' Trash Productions Thanks Bryn. There's a lot of effort that goes into arranging for all the extra driving and unloading shots. Scott will vouch for the fact that we called up many more haulers with nothing to show for it. As for the front loader, Zach has a picture somewhere of such a setup: triangle hookup, old school straight arms, dumping into an open top dump body, conventional chassis. I think it was from the 60s. A historically significant picture, the "missing link", if you will, between the standard Lodal A-frame front loader and today's rear load emptied A-frame minis. We should pester him to post it again.

Every time my favorite trash company is Gerber's trash removal so is in Cockeysville so the company was family owned and operated in 70 years since 1938 so I just met the drivers who drives the roll off truck and front end loaders so if you can make a video for me so I just saw them at the baltimore county central acceptance facility landfill in Cockeysville.

They were cheaper but they needed repaired more often. The shoes would wear out fast and the bar would get worn thin. They would grind a bunch of lines in it to get a little more life out of it but when it was done it was done. I remember the driver hitting the brakes when empty and the blade sliding all the way up to the front with a big bang!

Holy shit that is amazing! Absolutely love the dark green with the red accents, very aesthetically pleasing and looks amazing. That cummins engine sounds absolutely amazing! Great to see footage from the step, Scott definitely missed out! :P perfect combo too, nice to see the one lever to control the blade. I don't think I've ever seen that before, all the drivers that I know that were on old leach packers loved it and always bring that up as one of the best features of the old leach packers. That Autocar ACL is badass too! I wonder if they have any carting haulers in Detroit like they do in NYC. Would make for some pretty cool video on my part. Definitely enjoyed this one too, and great camerawork too as always!

+garbageproductions1 Classic Northeast red and green. Scott's spent way more time on the step than I have so he let me have this one. The ACL certainly is badass, they've really grown on me since having filmed this one. I'm sure there's demolition material to be hauled in Detroit but I'm also sure it's done by dump truck and roll off like the rest of the country (world). NYC is unique in their pressing of rear loaders into such a demanding line of work. Constant real estate turn over means buildings are constantly being gutted and redone. There's a lot of waste really...

I love that fuller splitter gear. Although, thats what i assume that it is. I drove a daf 2800 with a fuller gear ,and i love that much more than the current auto gears.

Wow, heard some pretty fantastic trucks in NYC, but none as great as this. Cummins all the way!! Great that you get to ride not only in the cab but also on the back. Any idea why they were dumping some Queens County Carting Dumpsters too? Bet you could hear this trucks takeoff all the way from Staten Island. Awesome stuff, never disappointed!

+SoCalGarbageTrucks Not sure, but they might have just been renting the dumpsters from Queens County. Some demolition companies handle everything themselves, others will only deal with the dismantling inside the building, only hauling, etc. In the case of this job I'm pretty sure Allgone Removal was being paid to show up and empty whatever bins were there.

I was listening to that idle whistle right at the beginning and I knew she was going to sound good, then next thing she rumbles up and starts growling - awesome! Was that blank picture between 7:09 and 7:15 there to solely focus on the audio by any chance? If so it worked! I'm sure nobody noticed you riding the step and taking a video at the same time; you wouldn't have been at all conspicuous :P I loved his short taps of the throttle where you got those quick chugs from the exhaust... I like to do the same thing with the right truck =] Also good to see this beast has a pipe on each side of the cab so nobody misses out on the growl notes... you want everyone in a busy area to hear this. Loved all the passenger clips at the beginning too showing the driving side of the job, bridge views were mad, damn traffic but :( I've gotta say after watching the quick lever movements from 3:00, if that was me, I probably would've lowered the slide, then opened the sweep and pushed everything out of the hopper lol The tipping section at the end was a bonus, also just how I imagined it being all dark and dusty looking. Too bad about that guy at the end telling you to cut film... at least you got Pete giving the horn and chugging forward that last little bit. Another good one George! Demo action dominates!

+MitchellM15 Basically yeah, eliminate visual distractions for maximum aural effect. You'll notice as the video fades out we start to turn left. The discerning ear will make out echos off the sides of buildings as we turned from a wider Ave to a narrower street with a narrower "concrete canyon." I was quite conspicuous lol, we squeezed by some dude in a box truck who was curious as to what I was going. Same sentiment when it comes to Peter's deft control of the engine revs, entertaining as hell. When do we get another "Mitch's view from the cab" vid? Citywide has a really cool facility, even though the shot wasn't quite perfect I was happy to catch the crawler loader in the background as I've always been a big fan of those. Thanks Mitch. :)

Wow! Absolutely amazing video here George! I just absolutely love that mean sharp growl coming from that Cummins 300 engine! Wow! Wow! Wow! I'm just speechless here! This is what all garbage trucks should sound like! How did you get to ride in the cab and stuff like that? I'm a little bummed that you didn't get a run through the gears - I was hoping to hear this thing shift into high gear! Do you have a run through the gears? I just love this truck! If you can, please get more footage of this amazing beast!

+GarbageSean Thought you might like this one. :) There was a bit too much traffic to ever get up to speed, but right before pulling up to dump you can here the range selector flip over to high for 5th gear.

Think you might wanna add that he can juggle the phone, shifter, steering wheel, and a bag of chips without missing a beat lol This is one of those videos where the driving shots are actually more entertaining to me than the action (but both were still very nice to watch). Not sure if you've ever played GTA 4, but I feel like I recognize some of the areas in the video from the game haha And transfer station shot was really cool, which facility was that? How do you get those shots btw? Do you just ride in the truck and hop out right before he dumps? I feel like I've seen Peter's truck on Maps before, I'm going to double check real quick because the name sounds very familiar. I'm happy you and Scott out of all people got to travel to the East Coast to film the classic trucks they have running around. Great work George! Glad to see another video from you!

+WMmaster626 Haha the best part was when he bought the chips, at a tight little gas station while also fueling up. As we pulled in I was very honestly thinking to myself "Where the hell is he going to fit this thing?" But sure enough no problems. Then as we were leaving, "Damn he's going to have to back the bitch out into three lanes of traffic!" But nope, just flipped her around and off we went. Dude has skills. We dumped at Citywide in Greenpoint, just at the base of the Kosciuszko Bridge. Basically yeah, and hope people either don't care or won't catch on until we're done. Unfortunately the guys at Citywide were quicker than most ;) Scott scouted out Peter's old Autocar DK on Flickr, we were hoping he still had it but this truck is its replacement. I'm glad too, Scott is a blast to film with.
