Thanks for your help. I have never fished with lead core. I just bought the set up for trolling with lead core. Your video really helped me. Thanks again.

Very helpful. Thanks. I do a lot of trolling with lead core in a canoe. I am colorblind, so I go totally by the line counter and I have just spent countless hours trying different settings. I have found that I can row one direction and bump the bottom, and over the same spot in the opposite direction, not hit bottom. Not sure how wind and current affects me in a canoe (a bit slower speed, maybe erratic too). I think I have been too short on my leader length. Appreciate the tips.

Outstanding video! I have had the question for years is the line out from the rod tip or the water level. You are the only one that has answered that question and I’ve watched a lot of videos.

Matt, thank you so much for validating my unconfirmed suspicion that the leader length is responsible for the dive curve. I’m new this year to lead core and seasoned users have been disagreeing with that. Not to mention you being the first video out of 100’s I’ve watched even mention this crucial aspect. Now, my question is about the sink rate per color being 7ft (I use the 832 as well). Most of the time I’m pulling deep divers and between the dive curve and 7ft sink rate the #’s just aren’t adding up. I’m somewhere between 5.8 - 6.7ft per color...? I want to believe that it’s 7ft per color but so far my experiences have been telling me otherwise. Is it me or do you believe it’s less as well? Thanks

Joe Y. Speed and current do have a affect on dive rate, what I gave is a general rule of thumb. Minor adjustments are normal for some of the baits. The precision trolling app for your phone will help you dial it in even closer

This is so incredible that you are explaining this. Thank you so much. I just have one question. I'm using lead core for trout fishing and I'm using a Tasmanian devil lure or Kastmaster instead of a bill type lure. Will the leader length also apply to these type of lures where it would drop an additional 2 feet if I have a 6 foot leader? Thanks again!
@matthewjollymore34713 жыл бұрын
The length of the leader will act the same on any bait you use. So if you did not have any lead core and let out six feet of leader line how far does the Tasmanian devil dive? Would act the same at the end of the lead core.

Great video.I run lead core on Lake Erie and you mention adding planer boards on the lead core,what releases do you recommend to not damage the lead.

Great job explaining. Trolling at 2.5mph etc is using main motor. What about when using trolling motors at say 1-1.5 mph. Is it a waste of time trolling that slow and all charts have 1.5-2.5 MPH. I catch striper trolling with planers and live bait only in spring and fall using trolling motor at 1 MPH. I haven't really trolled deep yet, so just curious if they would still bite on slow troll in summer.
@matthewjollymore34714 жыл бұрын
The direct answer would be yes it will work, however for speeds like 1mph I would suggest using the offshore tackle snap weights 50/50 method www.offshoretackle.com/graphics/divecharts/50MethodRevised31412.pdf , bottom bouncers, in-line weights or using the 3 way trolling system.

Matthew Jollymore thanks, the link is using 10lb mono. Went to their site to see if I could find other charts and couldn’t find any. Would still love to see a chart or formula for 1mph using lead core.

Hi. My trolling rods came factory with 30ft of 30lb mono, could you give some insight as to the dive depths would be? TIA

Mathew can i try to keep it simple, were I all ways run 10 feet so the bait will go down 4 feet, and do the math on my 832 advanced lead core for sections and should be Wellah,,,right

Accidentally bought me a "leadcore trolling rod" from Scheels and it's pretty small and I was wondering if I could use it to fish normally like cast from shore and catch like bass or trout
@tylerleigh32644 жыл бұрын
No, a trolling rod is for trolling, meaning it is setup to be used with a levelwind reel ( you can not cast a level wind reel because there is not a release like on a baitcaster. )
@andyizarraras29564 жыл бұрын
@@tylerleigh3264but it doesn't have a trolling motor I put a baitcaster on it pretty decent one for 100 and the trolling rod is medium look up the "Scheels leadcore trolling rod" it's look blue with black
@tylerleigh32644 жыл бұрын
Andy Izarraras I just looked it up and it would theoretically work with a bait caster it is just not ideal. It won’t be sensitive enough, have enough backbone, or be a fast enough tip. What I would do is see if you like it with the reel on, Go fishing with it a couple of times and see if you like. Which i am assuming you won’t so I would sell it and but cheap bill dance special or something. But if it is fine then great.
@tylerleigh32644 жыл бұрын
Also do you have Instagram, if so I can dm you to talk about it more and find a better rod.

Alan Mc the measured speed for lead line is normally 2.0 MPH - 2.2 MPH depending on brand
@TheDisciplinedDisciple-3 жыл бұрын
I run between .4-.8 and two colors gets my inline smile blade down approximately 22ft another thing to consider is the weight of the leadcore that’s with 17# core. Best way to figure out how to use it is to troll at your desired speed and use some sort of table like his and adjust it til it stops dragging the bottom then u have a better idea. I only use a 3ft leader to a swivel but my leader lengths varies between 3’-4’ on inlines. Once you know what’s bottom you can cut that in half and then in quarters. You don’t need to be right on because the leadcore fluctuates depths as you troll it sorta like flapping in the wind.
