Hi Bill, how would you draw a pattern like this one if you weren't copying a existing pattern, especially with curves, straight lines are easier, I'm asking you because your processes to get things done are exceptional when I compare you to other channel & because you go into detail & answer me, which most others don't do, so I thankyou so much for being gracious in sharing yr knowledge 😊

Hi Austra, It's been a long time ago that we made that solar lantern. You should watch both the videos, the one with the pink flowers in it and this one. The pink flowered one was first and has some info on it that might be helpful. The patterns for both of these projects are from pattern books I have picked up over the years. I just pick an area out of the pattern and size it to work in the project I plan to make. Your right drawing these patterns would be a lot of work. If you look at the video called, What Do I DO When Not Making KZbin videos, you will see the pattern used for the windows under the kitchen cabinets is part of the pattern I used for the solar lantern. You can find all kinds of free leaded glass patterns on the internet. Just print one out you like and make copies of it. If you look at the start of the video, you will see I also printer a copy on a manila folder to use as the pattern. I hope this helps you out. Have a great day!! Regards, Bill Stone

@@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310 Hi Bill Yes I will look at those others also. I was just asking because, I have many pattern books that are copyrighted & I just wondered how leadlight & stained glass artist do there own patterns over all their years, Thankyou once again Have a great day 😁

Hi Austra, A lot of these glass patterns are made up on a computer now days. I the old days they were drawn up by glass artist that were real artist and used all types of items to make their patterns. I have made a lot of my own designs using standard rulers, triangles, compass and I also have a bendable ruler to make different curved lines on the patterns. I also use lids off different containers with different sizes to make circles. When I lived in Lake Havasu City, AZ I meet a wonderful glass artist and we worked on a couple projects together, I learned so much from her. She also did large glass Mosaic panels on the side of walls and buildings; she used an opaque projector to put an image on the wall to get her design started, then would start to put the glass pieces into place. I think if you are good at drawing just start to make up your own ideas and see what you come up with. When I do make up my own patterns, I make sure I don't design something that can't be cut on glass like a backward curve or loop. Hope that helps you out a little. Have a good one!! Regards, Bill Stone

Another beautiful piece! I love the round flowers, so cute! On another channel they said once you cut and grind your glass, wipe the edges with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil from your hands, then foil. What is your opinion on this step? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time 😊

Hi Therese, Glad you like the video. They are all so much fun to make!! If you watched the video on the solar lantern with the sea glass in it, I talk about the edges of the glass. I use both Lacquer Thinner and 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to wipe the edges to get the grinder dust on the edges off the glass. I like the Lacquer Thinner the best, it dries very fast, and the copper foil sticks to it very well. Hopefully this helps you out. Have a Great Day!!! Regards, Bill Stone

@@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310 Yes, I've watched every video but I don't remember that, shame on me! Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I just purchased some confetti glass to make a lantern. I just need some wood to make a frame on my homasote board. I love your channel and the genius idea for the hangers! Thanks again, Therese 😊

Hi Therese, Sounds like you are about to get started. If you don't have a way to make the small form wood pieces you could do this. When you are at Home Depot, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby or other craft stores they all carry the old fashion wooding yard sticks. Just buy a couple and make your forms with them, they could be cut to any size you want, they would work great. You could also pick up some wood paint stirring sticks. (Some stores give them away, so check that out!!!) May have to get a Lumber Yard to order you some Homasote board. You might try Home Depot it comes in a 4'x8' sheet, can be cut on a table saw, most Lumber Yards and Home Depot would cut it to fit your worktable. Both Amazon and Delph Glass sell a 24"x24" Homasote board, but their price seems out of line to me. When you ask about the Homasote Board, and they are not sure what you're looking for, you can tell them it's user for sound deadening in sound studios or any area they would like to block out the sound. Hopefully some of this info helps you get started on your project. Regards, Bill Stone
