Its too bad that the Politicians, DOT and metro north are painting this as a major catastrophe as a mega scale technical and logistical challenge. Fill the hole however way it needs to be done, please stop the drama and do the job. "Your taxes (not) at work..."

@@SurfBandFan Railroad engineers are looking down from heaven and wondering why the tracks haven’t been fixed yet.

Because it is. If a train were to run over the 40 foot gap and 220 feet stretch, more than 200,000 tons per consist, it would cave in. It is a service catastrophe, because stone and ballast are obvious earth but human made materials that support the track unlike metal beams.

Is this the same area where there was a news report about concerns of the railbed failing atop the Coe Pond dike immediately downstream from the Kinnytown Dam? In April there was an immediate concern that emergency action was needed. Was anything done then or is this an adjacent site? Supposedly funding is already in place for removal of the Kinnytown Dam but the situation with the Coe Pond was causing a delay. Thirty days is probably an optimistic estimate if people expect the job to be done correctly.

1000-year storm...lol. A 10-year storm does this when you build next to the water. What was 1955 - a 10,000-year storm?

Try putting a trestle over the gap, filling it in with gravel will not resolve further excessive rain fall, especially near a body of water. Connecticut needs people with common sense, but that's too much to ask.

I figure 2 to 3 years before it runs again. It had a hobby railroad schedule any way.

1000 year storm? Considering there wasn’t anybody keeping records a thousand years ago, that makes no sense. The National Weather Service was started 154 years ago in 1870.

Common misconception. It’s calculated as a 0.1% chance per year. Hundred year floods (1%) happen multiple times per year.
@Couchflyer-NY4 ай бұрын
@@jaysmith1408 Thanks for that, I guess. So, 1000 year is the same as saying this storm theoretically had .01 percent chance of happening this year. That doesn’t impress me either.
@jaysmith14084 ай бұрын
@@Couchflyer-NY correct, if averages were law, then a 0.1 percent annual chance flood would happen once every thousand years like clockwork. But in practice, it’s just really low odds. And you’re welcome.

Believe in One God. God don't eat or drink He is not born nor He tastes death and there is nothing like Him. It is idolatry worshipping created things over Creator.

God where will we ever find stone and dirt? If only we had special vehicles that could ride the tracks and carry the material to the site, if only there were contractors who do this regularly. When I see a woman in a hard hat I cringe because I know that shits gonna take forever.
