President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. convenes with his fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), along with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, for the Leaders’ Plenary during the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne on March 6, 2024.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), today’s Plenary allows the Leaders to review the ASEAN-Australia cooperation through the years and propose ways forward to further bolster relations. During this convention, President Marcos Jr. is set to highlight the ASEAN-Australia cooperation on maritime issues, climate and clean energy track, people-to-people exchanges and economic cooperation.
It is also during this Plenary where two (2) outcome documents are expected. First is the ASEAN-Australia Leaders’ Vision Statement, which is an outline of the basic principles in commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations; the second one is the Melbourne Declaration.
