Prof Utomi is always on point. We are sharing oil money and have left production. Kenya exports flowers and tea. Kenya generates money from tourism. Nigeria is just sharing dwindling oil revenue! The country is rapidly dying due to unproductivity while the Population is rapidly growing. This a disaster waiting to happen.

It would be vwry hard work though to fix this country But it has to be done. The first task is the re-orientation of the people of Nigeria along the lines you enunciated in the Channels TV interview. And.from there other things to do will follow. Please don't give up. I personally share all the views you expressed in that interview. Thanks Prof. Utomi for bringing up those points. It is clear that the National Assembly contributes to Nigerian problems. How can a member of the National Assembly who is not enlightened make laws for the country. A good number of them are businessmen, whose interests are running their businesses, and being paid millions of Naira per month, while there are millions of University and NYSC Graduates roaming about without jobs. Secondly, they have what is called "Budget Padding", where the NASS members inflate budgets to their own interest. Also, Ministries and various Departments are held to ransom if their Ministers do not budge to NASS members' wishes. A good number of the NASS are either criminals, from both in Nigeria and abroad. These are people who are suppose to be in jail, if they were in the USA, UK, etc; but in Nigeria, they are glorified as billionaires, with no one asking how they made their money. Political party members place their parties above the interest of their citizens. Rich Politicians want to be "godfathers" so as to appoint citizens whom they give directions, contrary to the interest of Nigeria. The so-called "godfathers" appoint very weak executives who do not have a sense of direction, in order to control the Executive. The Legislator, with their huge monthly checks are also provided with free housing and free cars(yearly or bi-yearly). This does not provide for the growth of a nation. In the USA , legislators are not provided with these luxuries because they are paid salaries. I suggest that the NASS should be a part-time job; that will easy the Federal Budget, which could be channeled to other developmental projects.

The basic problem with our business and political class is the DOLLAR, it the source of the problem and it is what drives their decision making. A country that does not produce most of its own goods and services, would make the political and business class of that country thirst for the dollar, and be distracted by the dollar. Most countries in the world that have a huge dollar reserve produce and consume at least 90% of their own goods, be it in Europe, Middle East, Asia etc. We have to use our collective mineral and natural resources to develop our own lands. Another issue is selfishness and personal ambition of some of our business and political leaders, they don't see beyond their greed, hence why the rule of equity must be applied in the way we operate at all levels.

In as much as I respect Prof Utomi's intellectual capacity and prowess, I think he is highly naive of the Nigerian state. It is an evil business contraption of the British. Until the numerous ethnic nationalities converge a meeting to ask themselves if they want to live together; any discussions of the so called New Nigeria is a farce. Igbos are way different than the Hausa/Fulani in values, norms, and culture and to a smaller extent Yorubas. Break up Nigeria into ethnic states and have a common custom union where there is free trade. Any other jamboree of national front or what not is a waste of time. Nigeria CAN NEVER WORK as a united country!

I am yet to hear any clear and practicable theory of the Nigerian National problem. When such theory emerges, it will supply the DNA of ideas for National progress, and it will point the way to organizational, institutional and strategic changes that will not only create massive employment opportunities and force both the internal alignment of cultural, political and economic forces; but also cause Nigeria as a whole to reposition herself in global affairs for National progress and global equity.

I was speaking to a Fulani from the North and his thinking was that the South wants to colonise the North, by Capitalism through Christianity, he believes Christianity and Capitalism are the same, and if you speak to some in the South, they will also say the North wants colonise the South through Islamisation... so the issue with us is a mental power struggle for a WAY OF LIFE, some want to live like Arabs, some want to live like Europeans, so naturally, capital flowing in between these two way of life/thinking would bring confusion on how it should be spent and saved... one of the reasons why development is slow and power isn't given to local governments, the funny thing is that these religions and way of life were not created by us, so we practicing either will never be sustainable.
@goodies7813
@goodies7813 3 жыл бұрын
Easier said than done, but a good idea though. What I think is holding such arrangements back has always been the economic side of things, normally the economic side of things wouldn't have been an issue for the older generation of the North, but the easy access to oil money has intoxicated and opened the eyes of the newer generation of the core North. Also, even in the North, there are liberals too, who have convinced the core ones not to think of gaining political regional independence, without looking at the economic impact it would do to the region. But the South too, have to show sincerity that they do not have the intention to sneak in capitalism and a christian way of life into the core North.
@goodies7813
@goodies7813 3 жыл бұрын
@@JustThinkingAboutIt I get your point, but you really do not understand the politics of the North, it is a mix of core and liberals, and sometimes there are clashes, hence the emergence of Boko Haram, some ppl in the core North actually would prefer to have their own country and don't care about the economic impact, whilst some elites and liberals in the North care more about the economic impact, so there is a clash between Islamic ideology and Capitalism in the North, so it looks like Boko Haram is fighting for poor in the North. The Islamic ideology looks at catering for the economic well-being of the poor with the resources available, whilst Capitalism would not allow resources to trickle down, but it would provide infrastructure and jobs, but those without jobs would not be catered for, so really both systems if combined well could work for Nigeria, where the elites and the poor can actually benefit from resources. Nigeria's political history is a very complex, but on the surface it looks like North vs South, Islam vs Christianity, but it is actually about Money and Power, across all ethnicity. The old business elites have at one point in time turned against even their own tribe when their wealth feels threatened, they really don't care about religion or tribe, their religion or tribe is money. For instance, you would think what led to the civil war was purely Igbo v North, but it is deeper than that, it was the liberals and business elites in the North that masterminded the whole drama and wanted more access to the oil wealth in connivance with some of their liberal Southern counterparts, and some Southern business elites also took the advantage to get rid of their own rigid politicians that threatened their wealth too, with the help of the Igbo army officer, whom at the time thought he was doing something good for his country, but not knowing he was being used. Some Northern business elites did not like how core Northern old politicians were too rigid about Islamic ideology which was making them lose money in the North, but they knew if they themselves turned against the old Northern politicians, their ppl would turn against them, so they used an Igbo army officer, to kick start their plans, and then used another Igbo army officer to form a unitary system of government and constitution, and then quickly ditched them, so it led to a disagreement between all the elites from various parts of the country, but the common man from all regions were seeing it as a tribal war, so hence the civil war, so technically it was just a mear sharing formula disagreement between the business elites.

Pat Utomi is not exempt from those who ruined Nigeria! Here’s a man who willingly joined, and jaw-to-jaw, was conspicuously positioned in the NPN looting gravy-train. He was already very well informed when he was appointed the political adviser to President Shehu Shagari. He was already a young vibrant academic doctor of political science occupying a very powerful position. Not in the Nigerian sense of making money. But potentially, very influential, intellectually, if he wanted to be. What did he do with it?Cheek-to-jowl he was in cahoots with those thieving degenerates, who were on rampage looting, raping, pillaging our commonwealth. Enjoyment Party! How can we forget, or indeed, forgive such a young intelligent man with outstanding brilliant pedigree joining ranks with such unrefined crowd as was composed of NPN. They heeded no advice nor warning from capable, thinking quarters, such as when Chief Awolowo railed against their shallow, pedestrian, porous etc policies. He never thought it fit to resign even in the face of such monumental shenanigans routinely associated with and committed by that rampaging crowd called NPN, who started our ruination, big-time. Here he’s now pontificating! I find it difficult trusting these people. Witness the monsters Tinubu and Oshiomhole have turned since tasting power!

Mr Journalist stop asking questions that carries suspicious undertone, trying to make this laudable effort of the NCF look like a political conspiracy. Journalist are part of the major concern, this restructuring has to start from journlism.

He has spoken well! Indeed, moving towards the manufacturing and agricultural sectors will create more job opportunities and lead to a more sustainable economy. Its high time we started shifting from just production of raw materials to a more diversified economy. No wonder there is an overwhelming argument that countries with abundant natural resources tend to perform poorly, compare to countries that lack natural resources but only focus on manufacturing. When you observe carefully, most of the poor countries in Africa and some parts of Asia are countries with abundant resources, such as oil, gas, gold, diamond, cocoa, etc. This is why lots of scholars have argued that natural resources can either be a blessing or a curse to the state that possesses them .

Why now? What did you do to expose those hindering the progress of the nation when you were in government?To reform Nigeria, all of you old and current politicians should be out of the scene. You have all failed the nation.

The President of Nigeria in 2023 should be an EFIK MAN OR WOMAN FROM CROSS RIVER STATE OR AQUA IBOM STATE. The present Governor of Cross River State or former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke. These Nigerians will do. Nigeria has had Enough of these.....Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba ideologies. They have CRIPPLED NIGERIA ENOUGH.
