Miami condo collapse was caused by a leaky pool ????
@JelMain8 ай бұрын
@@davekeith576 No, too much sun. The pool deck was erected in daytime, the rebar contracts at night, expends the next day, shrinks, expands, contracts, work hardening sets in along the far side. Eventually, in the middle of the night, when the rebar's under maximum tension through contraction, a bar fails where it's bent 90 to embed in the side wall, the stretch around the bend has thinned it, weakened it. The load transfers to the ones on either side, which overload, and it unzips as it shears. The elastic release (stretch a short length of elastic between your fingers, the let go, it rebounds to hit the other side) shoots across the deck, knocking the temporary acro jack supports replacing the failed columns sideways, and down she comes. What they should have done is fit an expansion joint perpendicular to the sea, about 2" wide. Concrete and rebar can expand/contract by up to 2cm over that width, and the result was spalling on the underside. The pool, being a massive heat sink/radiator, probably helped, as did the shade from the tower: the deck rods there tore out in the demolition, you can see the rips through the cement in the post clean-up photos. The same on the North side. It's only in the gap between that the rods broke, ping-ping-ping.

It was the pool deck. Nothing to do with the pool itself. @@davekeith576

@@davekeith576 There was a lot more going on than just that, but I think that was a key issue. The people installing a bunch of granite counters and the like didn't do it any favors.

If it had been leaking from the day it was installed shouldn't 'the right thing' have been to get the installers back and fix their sh*t ?

The installer probably bailed on the customer after getting paid.

Question… how did they know there was a leak in the first place? If it wasn’t flooding was it just the water levels needing topped up all the time?
@OriginalLeakDetective8 ай бұрын
The water level kept dropping. Topup was constantly having to be run to keep it running.
