Don't know about surveyor reply but practically we hav only plug options others wise we hav to chang full tube and its not possible onboard.its drydock job

@@TechnicalSailor yes we are supposed to insert stud and pull from both ends with nuts .to keep the plugs in tension and in place. Don’t know how practical it is ..

How did you detect the leaking tubes?

Increase in water consumption will indicate tht there may be water leakage.

Also need to check the funnel.. If steam is coming out from the main engine or boiler funnel than it will indicate the water leakage..

After shuting the boiler down.. It can be inspected for boiler tube leakage..

Thanks. What i meant to ask was, after shutting down boiler and making it empty, how did you test which tube is leaking?

We can't detect leaking after making it empty. Hydrostatic pressure testing is done to detect tube leakage..
