Leaky Fibreglass Boat with a Broken Motor... Can it be fixed??

I saw this old Bonito craft 4.9 with a Suzuki 85hp outboard for auction, it didn't meet reserve so I made an offer and got it for $1100 NZD. These boats are $8-12k in good condition.
There is a hole in the hull, the trailer is rusty and the outboard hasn't run for 6 years. I can't resist a challenge...

@@mikerobinson8734 my brother is the opposite. He thinks every problem is the worst, never anything simple. He has disassembled most of his shit (motorcycles, four wheelers, truck, outboards), and just gives up and leaves it in a pile... What do you think of using waxes or silicons to prevent corrosion in the water jackets? Silicons reduce heat transfer and so can cause cars to boil over, but I doubt they will reduce it so much as to overheat a boat engine. actually I have tried it 2 or 3 times with no trouble. I also do what he did, run them in a bucket, but I intentionally try to get the cooling system to suck up as much used 2 stroke oil from the bucket as possible and use it to line the water jacket.

These videos could be 10x longer in my opinion. I just love all the intricate things you do. I really learn a lot. It's therapeutic watching someone so skilled do something like this. Never trusted Suzuki outboards. My 65 hp left me stranded several times and seldom worked right. Ended up buying the CDI brain module which cost $300. Had other problems after that so gave up and sold the boat and motor. My 200hp Johnson on the other hand worked perfectly for the 20+ years I owned it and it frequently went out 30-40 miles into the ocean on fishing trips. Glad you got yours running, hope it continues to run well.

My feed must be on a boat kick tonight (and it's been "winter" for at least a month here in North Dakota, prior to today's first real day of winter... The Missouri River is frozen over and ice fishing is all I hear up in these parts lol) but I'm not complaining. You remind me of an old friend that used to the very same things, be it boat or car or whatever... Just meticulous, step by step troubleshooting after a previous owner had given up, then voila! A "new" toy to play with! I was sitting here grinning when she fired up... So it's only a couple of years since you posted this but still great to see, especially when you youngsters pop in with their color commentary! :)

Watching Marty clean those carburetors reminds me of how much trouble I have had in the past getting carburetors cleaned, adjusted and working properly. I have alot of equipment and vehicles still using carburetors. Watched one guy on YT who uses a blast cabinet with baking soda to do the initial cleaning. Then finishes up with an ultrasonic cleaner using a degreaser. I have a sand blast cabinet and recently bought a 30 ml ultrasonic cleaner so will be doing some experimenting with those. My first victim is a Holley 4150 4 barrel from my Chevy tandem axle.
