Keenan is really good, I think he could be more successful if he relied less on that silly worm guard and made use of his other skills- he does have a lot of skills. He could play a far more aggressive game and go for subs, I think he could pull that off if he wanted to.

MrFreeeeeedom Worm Guard is REALLY good though. Keenan's Worm Guard specifically ( since others are trying to copy it now too of corse ), he has so many setups off Worm Guard and the control it offers... really not much of a downside to it.

It is nice to see that Keenan took next to 8 minutes to sweep Lo and it took less than 40 seconds for Lo to sweep him back... That tells you a lot! Lo has a better guard game than Keenan. IMHO the best guard game in BJJ right now is Lo's. And heck! He is also a great guard passer!!!! Passador e guardeiro! Fica ruim de aturar!

I'm a fan of Keenan's, and I give him credit for inventing the worm guard. It's innovative, sure, but I don't think it's doing him much good on his level. Sure, people who are of a lower caliber or who aren't expecting it can easily fall into some impressive sweeps. At Keenan's level of competition though, everyone is read for this. Worm guard isn't offering any real submission opportunities and the sweeps are easily identified. It's locking Keenan down just as much as his opponents at this point. That's tragic for someone of Keenan's athleticism. I think freedom of movement would serve him so much better than getting bogged down in work guard. It's also terribly boring to watch.

That was a great match but kinda boring at the same time. Thankfully the last minute had more action. That worm guard of Keenan's I love and hate. Against a competitor like Leandro Lo it could be slow and boring like this. But Keenan gets a lot of sweeps with it. +joebeast15 It breaks your posture and makes it easier to control the top player, how is that stalling? Easy sweeps. By your logic Closed Guard is a stalling position. A small tight gi is better for a worm guard player because it breaks your posture even more, a Loose big almost judo type gi is what really sucks for a worm player because they dont have as much control over you because your gi has more space to move.

I dont get swept by that stuff because it forces me to stabilize and not move, they cant move me, they have to wait for me to move, and Im not going to move just so I can get swept screw that. Of course in Brazil (and not only ...) there is not a great moral and sporting ethics. Little respect for the opponent, and for the rules. Referees often "distracted" who pretend not to see faults and misconduct. Not clear coaches who teach first of all that the opponent is an "enemy" to be killed, not an athlete who competes in the fight. With the silence (perhaps accomplice?) Of the sports federations. What’s the point of having such hard to pass guard if you have to sacrifice the main goal of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which is the submission.
