I first heard Leann Rimes when she was 8 or 9 years old, singing the Star Spangled banner at a Dallas Cowboys football game. People in the stands turned to each other and said "that girl is going places". I bought her first album "Blue" in 1997 and have been a big fan since. She has sold over 37 million records worldwide. This song, a testament to her abilities, is a perfect example why.

The funeral home that was in charge of my fathers services in 2007 didn't have this version so I lend them my cd as this was the version I wanted. Six years later when my mom passed the did, and said they had many requests for it. There is something about a song that can hold it's own without musical accompany.

This is probably the most popular song in the english language. It was written by John Newton in 1779 as part of a book of hymns he wrote with the great poet William Cowper. It refers to his earlier career as a slave ship captain and his overwhelming guilt at being part of such an evil trade. Newton credited his turning to religion for opening his eyes to the evil and became a very effective lobbyist against the slave trade. Was blind but now I see. That this song speaks to so many is a testament to the brilliance of Newton and Cowper.

Oh the delusion, Im sorry for your loss, but you wouldnt feel the same for any other animal who you watched die, after all, the human race is just another species of animal on this planet. Death is a critical path of life and has to happen, and the whole point of religion is for us to fear less of our own mortality and attempt to give meaning to our meaningless lives. What exactly do you mean "go home to heaven?" Is that term simply used to help ease your pain from the loss of a loved one? As poetic as it sounds it makes no sense from a viewpoint of religion considering humans supposedly go to "heaven" after they die, unless you think there is a "beforelife" which is even more of an absurd idea than an "afterlife".
