Auto tune is pitch correction technology that grabs a note and adjusts it up or down so a singer stays in key. Some people have trouble keeping the pitch of their notes, or run out of breath and notes start to fall flat. Auto tune 'automatically tunes' the note to where it should be. It's main use has everything to do with vocals.

@@lewie7820 Not sure who you are referring to. But Rimes is married to actor Eddie Cibrian. When they met he was married to Brandi Glanville, a vapid TV personality who was famous for being famous. And Rimes was married to Dean Sheremet, another actor. Glanville did not take the affair her husband had with Rimes lightly and made it her mission to ruin Rimes professionally. So she used her “celebrity” to raised such a big stink about that many in the country music business, saints that all of them are, turned their backs on Leann. The nerve of her stealing another woman’s man. But as far as the music business was concerned, I think it was mostly around competition and jealousy, so this gave them an excuse to shun her. They knew they couldn’t compete with her looks and talent. This would have never happened to a male country singer, in fact they would have written a song about it and it would have been a big hit. Give me Leann Rimes over overexposed Carrie Underwood any day of the week.
