Lol gorilla tight. By the way there's a better way to wrap the string for Skyrocket, wrap the string around the tip with your throw hand then toss the loose end of the string over the rest of the string creating a little twist between you and the top. Much higher success rate.

In 1960 my Sicilian uncle gave me a top and showed me how to throw it. After countless unsuccessful attempts I finally “almost” got the top to land upright and spin. I was so excited by my “almost” success that I ran inside and told my uncle that I almost did it. He replied “almost is a million miles away”. I’ve never forgotten that. And as a result strive for perfection.
@MarkHayward5 жыл бұрын
Wow. I agree that "almost" is not doing the thing, but perfection is a nearly impossible goal much of the time. I prefer "really good, and sometimes perfect, but not always". Forgiving yourself for not being perfect is a really good way to live. Not being perfect is human nature.

Hey Mark I could not find a wood spin top so I bought a plastic spin top but when I try to spin it it turned upside down please reply I do not know what to do
@MarkHayward Жыл бұрын
There are a lot of variables in getting a top to spend on its point. If your top is really light, and has a shorter string than what I use, you'll need to experiment with the angle that you release it. Some tops need the tip pointing straight up when you let go, some need it pointing out, some need it pointing in. Watch the video again closely, then put your scientist hat on, and try out a bunch of different options until you get one that works.

I'm using a modified Duncan Bearing King with a Strommol8 steel tip. Spintastics has some really great bearing tip tops, but the best by far is the STB or STB2 from Strommol8. They're expensive, but are the best tops that have ever been made in the history of humanity (IMHO).

Does it hurt on your hand
@MarkHayward4 жыл бұрын
Not usually. A ball-bearing tip spins independently from the body of the top, so those don't, but a fixed tip does spin on your skin and could hurt if the tip is rough. I never spin my tops on concrete or other rough surfaces, so the tips stay smooth, and they don't hurt my hand.

In the philippines we have a different game it goes like this: Its a 2 or more player game They must agree to the terms of the game 1) draw a target(like a dartboard) on the ground (not concrete) 2) the players aim for the middle, the ones farthest "lose" 3) the "loser/s" spins their top first 4) the "winner/s" aim for the top as strong as possible to inflict maximum damage (you want to destroy the enemy's top) 5) rinse and repeat until one of the tops break (or all players get bored) 6) the REAL LOSER is the one with the broken top(lmao) Its sad only few people actually play this anymore :/
@MarkHayward4 жыл бұрын
That sounds SO FUN!!! Thank you for sharing how to play it! At top spinning conventions in the United States (which are very small), my friends and I play something similar that we call Battle Top. The goal is to break your friends top, but mostly we just have a great time, and not many tops get broken. we came up with a scoring system so that even if tops don't break there can still be a winner. I've made some trophies for them, and you can see a few in my machines & mechanicals playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLweomkkjgGqMMlIlvQCoTCLzDE0Zr68jX

How long is the string
@MarkHayward4 жыл бұрын
I use one that is about 6 feet long. Some people play with a shorter string, so you can go with your preference. The size of the top matters for string length. In general you want it to wrap around the top about 17 times. But you may have to adjust the length some depending on your style and top. Oversize tops usually use a proportionally shorter string than standard size ones.
