appreciate the tutorial man, it would be sick if you could maybe walk through why you pick certain drum hits, why you place the notes where you do, how you decide the length, and how you go through the decision making on changing velocity. kinda confusing for somebody exposed to music theory/music production for the 1st time

I've seen a few friends produce tracks with Ableton who have no formal education in music theory. I asked them similar questions and all of them replied: well, you just try to make it sound right and make it sound good. I sometimes pick a track I really like (example Guy Gerber - What To Do (&ME Remix) and I listen to it 5-6 times in a row, very carefully. At first I pay attention to kicks, then drums, then bass, then melody... And I always wonder how he makes it sound so good... I guess a lot of practice will get you there :)
