Glad this video popped up! I am frrreeesssh on the journey in learning to code. There are a ton of resources, but most have been overwhelming to navigate or figure out? I appreciate seeing the logos associated with the language super helpful for at least being able to recognize. Lastly, the fact that I really can learn what I want for free 😭😭😭 invaluable.🙏🏽🤩

With Exercism, its a great approach going through imo the most important part of starting out any language, that is setting up your workspace! You will end up with a ton of errors to learn from related to pathing and dependencies.

Is this better than using books? A library is practically free and you are not limited to programming. You can also learn a language from different perspectives (authors). Especially because such books can go on for 1000 pages and cover quite a lot.

To be me it doesn’t teach anything, it makes you go look for the topics in the specific language you pick. On top of that the problems are really just algorithms. While this is all good to better your skills I don’t see it as an absolute beginners way of learning. I feel like it’s a place to go after you’ve learned the syntax of the language, you’ve built the example programs and now you don’t know what to do to hone your knowledge of said language.

Guys. I've always liked the idea to move in to coding for it being lucrative yes, but also that a friend explained to me with such joy in his voice that these are the tools to make your own play world online and build whatever you want limited by only your creativity. It sounds so amazing and fulfilling but I've never done anything like this and I fear it would be outside my capacity since I don't already have any sort of experience or vested interest in it. Could any of you recommend me where to begin considering I only know the standard stuff of using a computer and never done anything remotely code related or even network management and stuff? Sorry for the ambiguous and open ended questions, its just that you see "beginners" courses that still require you to have experience in other computing areas first and I end up being stumped before I even begin :( Really appreciate any input anyone could give and many thanks in advance if you can!

What's your end goal? Do you just want to develop apps or get a job in tech?
@gm8329
@gm8329 2 жыл бұрын
@@aperture0 Hi Aqua, thanks for replying, I appreciate it :) Ultimately yes, I'd like to be in that field full time and permanently if I am capable of being good enough. The tech field in general is expanding (to my understanding, at least) and having sustained injury in a physical job, I'm now pretty much needing to work around that, so I'm able to dedicate the next few years or so to something so long as I can do most of it lying down (back issue). I don't have a particular area in mind that I'm aiming at as I frankly don't know whats out there or where my interest may best lie until I've done a bit of trial and error (supposedly) so I guess starting out, the wise bet would be whichever course/language would provide the broadest foundation going forward? Sorry for the winded answer.
