Both of my great grand parents were deaf, so my grandma and her brother had to learn it to communicate with them. She doesn't remember much now, but she taught me the basics. Like mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, please, thank you. But my main reason for wanting to become more fluent is because my uncle is schizophrenic, and with all the medications he is on he just mumbles. But he signs at me sometimes and I hate that I can't understand no more than about 5 words he says. Anyway..... long story over. Just want to say thank you so much for these videos. They really, really help. (:

Hi Rochelle. I am hearing but have wanted to learn the language since I've been 4 years old. My grandma and grandpa are deaf. It was always hard to communicate with them until now. You changed my life in a way. Now I want to be an interpreter when I'm older. Thank you so much for all have done. My dad and his two brother's know ASL but aren't to well since my grandparents moved to Florida, so now I can teach them. I love that you did this. And I am only 12 so now I can learn how deaf people can communicate. I love this. CC makes it easier, thank you so much. I hope you read this!!! These are the most useful videos I've ever seen in my life. Right now I'm day 19. But I'll be done soon!! I love this!!! Thank you so much!!!! I know said thanks like 6 times but u CHANGED MY LIFE!! Now I can talk to my grandparents. I don't even know you but changed my life. You deserve a pat on the back x10000000 ;) I hope I can get a response back. I may post this on every other day I watch. So I just want you to know how appreciative I am. You broke everything down for me. I get an order. I am FORCED to learn Spanish in school. And I always wanted to learn ASL. U are AMAZING!!! ;-O

I'm so glad I came upon your videos! I used to be fairly fluent in ASL... about 20 years ago. When I moved, I had no one to talk to using ASL so I forgot. And I always said I would relearn (A promise I made a few years ago.) Well, I've decided it's time, and I'm setting a 90 day goal to be able to speak to someone that is taking a leadership program I am a part of. A friend then told me about your videos which support me greatly and support the learning I am already doing. Great job, and thank you for being a stand for ASL to reach more people!

Thank you so much for making this video and the rest in your series!! I m currently attending RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) in Rochester NY and it has one of the largest NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) campuses in the country. Because the program is so large many of my fellow class mates are deaf or hard of hearing and only communicate through ASL. I am not personally planning on being an interpreter but id like to minor in ASL and be able to communicate with my peers. Your first two videos have helped so much and I appreciate that you have also included the dos and don'ts as well as the facial expressions as those add to the meaning of the signs! Thanks again for your wonderful videos and I can't wait to watch the rest of them!! :)

And I'm only on day 2!! You pack so much into these videos and they are so engaging; I may just finish this series tonight. Thank you so much for making these!

This is so awesome. I don't have any deaf friends nor family members, but I want to learn it in case I do meet people who are deaf. I've already met a deaf person and they wanted a picture. Before I got to help them, so lady who knew ASL went over and took their picture. I want to be that person who can help. Also, if a deaf person needs help, or if i need help. I really think learning basics of ASL is important because you never know who you'll meet. I personally believe it's common curtesy. Stay kind and good luck learning everyone!

These lessons have been great, your teaching style really works for me. This also may be random, but I also really appreciate that you only do pop up adds on your videos and not "commercials" if you will. Please keep the videos coming. I am truly sharpening my skills. I am a teacher and I have hearing impaired students in my class. I too have always been drawn to signing and have always wanted to learn, but it is a lot more important to me to be able to communicate with my hearing impaired students. I do not think I should have to tell the interpreter whatever it is I want to say to them. I think I should be able to sign even the most common signs like hello, how are you, do you have a question, are you okay, happy birthday, have a great day/weekend! My students appreciate me for taking the extra step in learning so that I can have a conversation with them. Oh and they also enjoy when I sign the wrong thing.

Thank you for these amazing videos. I had someone in my college drawing class who is deaf, and I would sometimes see her zone out because she was sometimes unable to fully participate in class discussions because people would be talking all at once or away from where she could read their lips. It made me sad because she probably missed out on some great class discussions, and she was always so animated when she was able to talk and give her opinions. If I had known ASL, I might have been able to help her to be fully engaged with the rest of the class. I'm going to try to learn ASL now so that if I ever run across this kind of situation in the future, I'll have the skills to do something about it. :)

My friend introduced me to sign language a few years ago and I felt as if I was doing something wrong I'm still learning I am still working on the alphabet but thanks to you I know what mistakes I was doing

I think what I'll need to catch up on is the speed and understanding others signs. Thank you so much

Despite what other people are saying, I think that the fastest way to learn a language of any kind, spoken or not, is to immerse yourself completely in that language. Even though you do not understand at first, it will force you to pick up on associations between words and actions. If someone that speaks spanish always uses the word "Gato" when speaking to, or about, a cat, you will eventually learn that "Gato" means "Cat" The same with ASL if every time someone points at you, you eventually figure out they are talking about, or to, you. I think that your usage of signing for the entire video (with captions of course) is a very effective way of teaching

This is truly amazing. I am learning so much. I am on day 8. However, if you were to create again, for someone who is learning it, using your voice as you speak helps because I am trying to watch your signing AND read the close captioning so I know what you are teaching. When I am doing that, ads also pop up which puts the closed captioning infront of your hands. Thank you for creating this!

she is deaf so she can't speak
@annemariecharvat76858 жыл бұрын
Yes she can. She speaks without any difficulties in other lessons. I am a speech pathologist so I can tell you she shows no sign of being deaf in her speech.

She can speak. See day 6. Clear speech, she is not deaf. That's why I came back and wrote the note.

Lol, you had me laughing!!! Thank you (sign) 💖enjoying your videos . I also appreciate that you take time to point out the facial expressions. I never consider that’s part of signing also.
