Why do first laver with a v and in the second sentence lawer with a w?

@@mingosutu You’re talking about the pronunciation then, not the spelling. Completely different matter. Since you’re wondering, yes I am Danish (ridiculous assumption that I’m not). V’s often sound like “W” when pronounced fast, but slowed down it sounds more like a traditional “V”. Any other native speaker would tell you the same thing.

That's because when we normally speak, it's pronounced "w". "v" is the more official one. As a teacher, I'm obligated to give you both, even if the official one is hardly ever used.

This is not clear as the speaker pronounces the same example in a single sentence differently. If you listen carefully to the words "laver" & "doven" he pronounces the "v" in same example first with "w" & then with a "v". So that is not satisfactory. What is correct or are both?

Why is it that in Danish there's a big difference between the spelling and the pronunciation. For example, your write "IKKE" but you pronounce it "IGE". I mean, in the other two sister languages, Swedish and Norwegian, the difference between spelling and pronunciation is not that big as it is in the case of Danish. Is there a historical reason behind that?
