The course “250 Dutch Proverbs” is developed by Bart de Pau. It contains a selection of proverbs any student who learns Dutch should know.
The proverbs in this lesson:

This Dutch language course can be done on any level from above beginner level (A2/B1) up to fluent.
The Dutch use proverbs and sayings a lot in their communication. For this reason it is very important to learn the meaning of Dutch expressions, so you are able to understand everything in the conversations with natives.
Unfortunately, many language students who reached fluency level and a rich Dutch vocabulary, did not pay attention to proverbs. Even foreigners, who live in the Netherlands for many years and speak Dutch without problems, often skipped this part. That is a pity! Because you will need to ask again and again to your Dutch friends and colleagues, what do they mean.
Although the Dutch language contains thousands of proverbs, actually only a relatively small part is used. And that is an interesting fact if you need to learn them!
This course is a selection, made by Bart de Pau. He bought several proverb collection books and indicated which proverbs the Dutch use a lot. So if you know these, you probably know as much as any Dutch native speaker.
In the course the meaning of the proverb is given, as well as in which situation you can use it, and the origin of the expression.
Of all the lessons in this course, there are subtitles available. So you can do the course on a device without speakers or simply not to disturb your family or colleagues (!). De cursus “250 Nederlandse Spreekwoorden” is ontwikkeld door Bart de Pau. Het betreft een selectie van spreekwoorden en gezegden die een ieder die Nederlands leert dient te weten. De cursus kan gevolgd worden op elk niveau vanaf A2/B1 tot aan vloeiend.
Nederlanders gebruiken spreekwoorden en gezegden frequent in hun communicatie. Daarom is het erg belangrijk om de betekenis van de uitdrukkingen te leren. Dat maakt het mogelijk om gesprekken met Nederlanders/Vlamingen goed te volgen.
Helaas is het zo, dat veel taal studenten NT2 (Nederlands als tweede taal) weliswaar een goed niveau bereiken en een rijke vocabulaire, maar vaak niet al te veel aandacht besteden aan het leren van de spreekwoorden en gezegden. Dat is erg jammer. Daarom moet je steeds opnieuw vragen naar de betekenis in de dagelijkse gesprekken met Nederlandse/Vlaamse collega’s en vrienden.
Hoewel de Nederlandse taal duizenden spreekwoorden kent, is het eigenlijk maar een zeer beperkt deel dat ook daadwerkelijk gebruikt wordt. En dat is een interessant feit voor degene die de spreekwoorden nog dient te leren !
Deze cursus is een selectie, gemaakt door Bart de Pau. Hij heeft vanuit diverse verzamelboeken van spreekwoorden en gezegden een selectie gemaakt. Als je deze weet, dan weet je waarschijnlijk net zo veel als de gemiddelde Nederlander/Vlaming.
In de cursus wordt de betekenis van het spreekwoord/gezegde gegeven, alsook de situatie waarin het gebruikt kan woorden en de oorsprong.
Bij alle lessen in de cursus is ondertiteling aanwezig. Daardoor kun je de cursus doen op een apparaat zonder luidsprekers, of simpelweg als je geen familieleden of collega’s (!) wilt storen. I am just starting to learn Nederlands. I am writing this comment after the the first proverb. met de deur in huis vallen Looks like I will count how many of those proverbs are the same in German, count so far 4:3 ... after a strong start it actually ended up at 10:5 only. Not too many monkeys in German sleeves (although Wilhelm Busch has written a nice story about Fips de aap.) 🙂
