This is a great beginner “foundation” project. For those interested in “paper piecing, also sometimes called “foundation piecing”, please be aware the steps are very different. A bunch of fun, but different from this. Just don’t want anyone to get confused.

Good, I much prefer this method with fabric instead of paper. May I suggest: invert your foundation fabric (with the markings ) Place your fabric on the unmarked top ( you can eyeball it ) and sew from the underside, on the marking. That way, you prioritize sewing with the accuracy of the marking ( and the h*ll with the seam allowance) instead of prioritizing on the seam allowance edge and hoping that the sewing line will fall where you want. Just a thought. Love your videos by the way, keep Appelling.

Would love to see other versions also. I love your bright color version. ❤❤. What stitch length do you use? I didn’t know if that would make a difference in the shrinkage of the Muslim block so I ant to try o avoid that as much as possible. Thank you for another great video and for sharing your expertise. Great vid. Love the bright color take on the lights & darks. It helps us see how to use all the choices of fabrics available these days. Would love to see the ither versions. Also interested in the technique in the comments about flipping the foundation & not worrying about the seam allowance. Would this work with this pattern? Keep up the great work.

Rob, I recently started quilting. My ex wife passed and I have some of her old clothes and will try to make three quilts by this time next year. I love your free motion and hope to be like you. So here is my question. I will be hand sewing the binding. I have been experimenting on a small quilt my wife stated 45 years ago. I can’t seem to find a decent thimble to fit my man sized fingers. I have 8-10 thimbles right now, and none of them are comfortable enough to use for more than 30 minutes to an hour. Do you have a link or a suggestion to find man sized thimbles. Thank you in advance

Rob, I hope you can answer this question-I have never understood the purpose of foundation piecing versus just sewing the fabric together without a foundation piece. I hope you can finally put this question to rest for me.
