Best of luck! It's a great hobby and also can be quite profitable. Buy some faulty stuff to repair, that way there is no stress and you can learn at your own speed.

And the 12v from pci-e are good for ~75w load so the usualy (from my expirience) power power ic circuitry and gddr memory.

quick question. wouldn't it be better to use isopropanol to clean the board? it will dry almost immediately and won't damage anything.

Little correction. Power coming from pci-e is 3.3 and 12v not 5v
