Madurai: Tamil Nadu sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin dismissed on Tuesday the announcement of a bounty on his head by an Ayodhya seer by calling him a "fake godman", although police protection was beefed up for his Chennai residence following a raging row over his recent remarks about "eradicating Sanatan Dharma".
Speaking at a DMK youth wing meeting in Tenkasi, the movie star-turned-politician expressed confidence in the protection offered by the party's youth wing. "I won't be needing it (security) when I have the youth wing cadre of DMK," Udhayanidhi said.
The minister was reacting to the bounty offered by the head priest of Ayodhya's Tapasvi Chhawni Temple, Mahant Paramhans Das, who had offered a cash reward of Rs 10 crore for anyone who would "behead" Udhayanidhi over his "anti-Sanatan Dharma" remarks.
Responding to BJP's accusations that he had called for a "genocide of Hindus", Udhayanidhi pointed out that a "Sana- tan abolition" conference had recently been planned in Chennai, but that didn't imply a plan for genocide any more than a "Dravidian eradication" conference suggested harm to DMK members. He stressed that the term "eradication" didn't equate to genocide, much like "poverty eradication" didn't mean eliminating a specific group of people.
He claimed that the BJP government at the Centre has been unsettled by the opposition's INDIA alliance gaining support and hence, it was planning to rename the country as "Bharat". He criticised BJP for failing to fulfil its promises, such as bringing "back black money from abroad and their demonetisation exercise (of 2016) was a colossal failure".
Udhayanidhi mentioned the controversial allocation of government properties such as airports to businessman Gautam Adani. He criticised the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, saying he "was disqualified because he raised the Hindenburg report in Parliament".
Udhayanidhi cited the CAG report that exposed alleged scams of the BJP government, including the waiver of Rs 16 lakh crore of bank loans to corporate companies and the silence of Modi on the Manipur strife.
