I just started learning to play the guitar after decades of drenching myself in music and deciding that I could not go to my grave without knowing how to play, if not to play the guitar well. I have just over two weeks under my belt and for sure I'm just a beginner. Thank you very much Tony. I have eight chords, one scale, one finger picking lesson, and four callouses that I have learned and earned thus far. Much of this, thanks to you. Please keep doing what you are doing.
@williamburke68703 жыл бұрын
You are a prodigal. I’m at four months as a 66-year-old beginner and still working on eight chords and their transitions. I’m a lefty, so now I am just starting to integrate holding three chords and working on my left hand finger picks. Focusing first on training my left, picking hand, on aligning the fingers with the correct strings, has helped me now that I am moving into holding chords and doing the fingerpicking drills. So as a beginner, I kept it simple and started with my picking hand to train my fingers on that hand, then move to learning chords with my right hand, and I’m now back to training my picking hand utilizing three or four basic chords.I apologize for describing this inelegantly but I thought it might help another beginner.

Tony, thanks so much for your videos! I've been playing guitar for about 16 years but only started taking it seriously in the last 5 years or so. Required quite a bit of concentration, I thought, “these are very basic” then you sit down and try to do it. Keeping an even pace, and even volume and trying to get some speed up.... like I said I had to really concentrate. I got it in the end and even worked in the C F G progression. Good exercises thumb and fingers feeling more independent. Definitely worth doing. And adding to the regime. TimC

fingerstyle has evolved to cannote a style of acoustic playing that is separate from fingerpicking. Though fingerpicking is part of fingerstyle technique, I don't believe the terms should be used interchangeably. The title of the video is somewhat misleading.
Without having longer nails is it beneficial for learning to have finger picks on, or just use your fingers? Edit 7 months later: full blast acrylic nails from the local salon. 😂

The way I see it as a gamer, is that Bass playing is basically tanks, pretty straight forward just get in there. Use slides, harmonics, hammer ons and hammer offs. Picks and 2 fingers. Guitas are like dps. You got a lot of tricks and different combinations to make you sound good.
@acebone25 жыл бұрын
I honestly think that there are too many words in that explanation. It's a lot of "tell" and then a wee bit of show. I don't think I have time to think "thumb on the E on the beat AND then thumb on the up on the a-string THEN the index on the pinkie - sry on the B ..." I mean the explanation is alright, but it's an analysis, it should not be used as a receipe. For learning, much simpler words should be used - "Instead of playing them two at at time, try playing them one at a time, but do it faster" is much easier to understand than "now instead of picking with the thumb on the E and the 2. finger on the third string simultaneously and then with the thumb and the 3. finger on the A string - but it's playing a B - on the second beat and-one-and-two-etc .... Theory is indeed an invaluable tool, but not whilst playing.
