I think the most easiest way to learn Hindi is by watching their movies. Seriously, I know much basic of Hindi language by watching how they speak together with help of the subtitle. At least, we noticed the words itself from there.

Save for a handful of oddities (mainly due to historical changes in phonology and orthography), it's an easy script to grasp. Yes, there are many symbols, but it's almost one letter = one sound. This video has an example of the aforementioned oddities: Listen to how the instructor pronounces "very" as "bohot." Well, the Romanization of its written word goes like "bahut" (both the vowels change). The spoken word reflects its older pronunciation.

kushal reddy There are 1652 languages in India that people consider as their mother tongue. After grouping many of them under one single language, for example Rajasthani and Bhojpuri are also counted under Hindi, there are still hundreds of languages left. Among these, 22 are considered as scheduled languages of our country. :-)

Good video, but you are wrong about the word 'Welcome'. 'Welcome' has two major meanings in English: 1) As a greeting to an arriving person - this means 'svaagat'. 2) As a response to an expression of thanks - This has no direct equivalent in Hindi. The three main responses to thanks are (i) koi baat nahin -- it's nothing/ it wasn't much effort, (ii) yeh mera farz tha-- this was my duty (iii) sharminda mat kijiye -- please don't embarrass me (by thanking for something unnecessarily).

As a native Hindi/Urdu speaker, I've never heard "you're welcome" translated in the literal sense. The replies I've heard include: (1) yeh to meraa farz thaa ([To do] this was my duty) - formal. (2) sharminda na kiijiye (Don't embarrass me [by thanking me]) - formal, and implies (like the above) a sense of duty (3) mujhe KHushii hui (It's been a pleasure) - equivalent in tone to the English (4) merii KHushqismatii thi (I've been fortunate [to get the opportunity to help you]) - semi-formal (5) koii baat nahiin~ / koii mas'la nahiin~ (It's nothing/No problem) - informal
