Thank you for the careful detail, and the Blue Peter style "here's one I made earlier" to cover all eventualities 🙂

What an effective tutorial. I'm trying to make a complicated dress (complicated for me at least) and I needed some help figuring out how to get the ruffles I wanted. Gathering wasn't working but THIS is perfect :)

Hi! I just discovered this video is available on KZbin. Thanks for all your comments. Some answers to the questions that were posted eons ago: The length of the inner circle will be the rough length of your seam allowance. Remember that your seam line is actually 1/2" or 5/8" in from the raw edge, so your seam line will be a little shorter than the raw edge. The rust colored fabric I used is a polyester chiffon. The gray fabric is a silk. Happy Sewing! Ellen

I like this better than the spiral. I may have to make a humongous circle, but, I will be able to control the width easier and sew the pieces together. Lining the flounce with the same fabric is the right thing to do. Showing us the process with stages of completeness is visually important for continuing on to the next steps. The video cut without showing much of the finished beauty of a well made flounce. I will look at the video again and again. You are the teacher. There are no shortcuts to perfection. I've seen garments made with a super long flounce that wasn't lined. I didn't like the garment just because I could see the wrong side of the fabric in the photo of the beautiful model wearing the garment with the sweeping unlined flounce. I'm sure, if it was done as I thought that it should have been done, the price would also have had to go up. As it was. Mostly everything in that catalog, had to be dry cleaned. I'm hoping that my flounce, will withstand the washing machine test. I do have an unfinished edge flounce, on a wrap skirt, that flounce works fine as is. It's a decorative kick tail of sorts. The power of its shape, is the circle. I can see it now, because of your video. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Much love to you.❤❤❤❤❤

Love this! thank you for posting ❤ I'm always confused at the measurements, if I wanted to add a flounce to the neckline of a cardigan for example. Do we measure the length of the neckline and somehow make this the inner circumference of the flounce?
@curtriceennis29242 жыл бұрын
From other videos about flounces I've seen, that is the way you measure the length you need - the circumference of the inner circle should be the length you wind up obtaining. Hope this helps.

Thanks. This helped a lot. What size should the circle be to fit a wrist sleeve? Should the fabric be double the diameter of the sleeve?
@ellenmiller33548 ай бұрын
The inside circle should be the same length as the wrist measurement + seam allowance. How big the outer circle should be depends on how wide you want the flounce to be. Good luck!

How do u get the length u need?
@curtriceennis29242 жыл бұрын
From other videos about flounces I've seen, the circumference of the inner circle should be the length you wind up obtaining - but, don't forget about being able to sew the ends of the flounces together. Sometimes that "takes up" some of the length you cut out. Of course, the larger you make your inner circle, the longer your flounce is, but, your flounce is also narrower. Hope this helps.
